Even that would be quite the move from toxic, untradeable asset.
I think the 2nd rounder was going with him a few months ago!
Yeah. I’m guessing that moreso based on the sudden surge in the rumors must mean some team is making a push for him at the right price. If I were another team that’s about as high as I’d go for taking a gamble on him. If Conroy can pull off a 1st I’d call him a god among men and any doubts towards his abilities would be erased.
Vanecek in NJ just turned in an awful performance last night and is statistically one of (if not the) worst goaltender in the NHL. Wonder if last night was the last straw for NJ?

This just makes so much sense, I’ve been hoping for this ever since Markstrom’s resurgence.
Multiple aspiring teams in east competing for limited playoff spots and in need of a strong starter. Conroy should be playing them off eachother because if one upgrades, the others are in even more trouble.
Wolf proven in the A. And ready to graduate to the show.
Dansk having a strong season in the A as well. Deserving of the starters role.
Vladar being meh, so not going to net any return, but he can tandem with Wolf and maybe improve his game with more playing time.
And this should clear up the bubble mess and ensure we sell the rest of the UFAs before the deadline and grab a pretty decent pick ourselves next draft.
Or Wolf becomes the next Kipper on his next call up and we make the dance anyway.
All that being said, really respect Markstrom for his professionalism and glad he turned his play around this season. But a trade now with his value high is the right move.
Make it happen Connie!

I can’t see this happening unless we’re out of the playoffs by a wide margin by the deadline. This would essentially be giving up on the season.
As I said earlier maybe that's the point.
The hurdle has lowered this week, instead of 93 points to get in you need 91. That could right back to 94 in ten days again.
But the Flames have won what 8 of their last 12.
If the hurdle lowers or stays the same Calgary could be that 85 point team that is close enough to have a tough call to make on deadline day.
Moving Markstrom near .500 works in so many ways. Your chances of making the playoffs go down, you move another asset for futures, you ensure that you can move the three UFAs and you win the public opinion battle because you're not having to make a tough call in early March.

You also immediately give Wolf and Vladar a longer runway this season. That's valuable development time. It gives them a chance to play meaningful games due to how close the West WC is, but also without crazy expectations because the team will have traded away veterans in favour of a youth movement for the future.

^ It also gives the Flames half a season to figure out if they can go with a Wolf Vladar tandem next year. I think one of Vladar/Wolf runs with the opportunity.
Have you ever seen them in the same room together?

I'm no insider, but the tidbit of info that I am getting is that the Devils are the source of the fire where this smoke is coming from. It makes sense too as Weekes has strong connections with that organization and they are currently out of a playoff spot after making big moves in the past year and a bit to become a contender.

Frankly I hope they move Vladar too. If they can get anything above value for him just sign a reclamation vet to take 50% of games next year to mentor Wolf. Vladar is a guy still trying to be a #1 without the ability. Wolf is the future and I wouldn’t want someone competing with him. A mentor would be better.
