The 1st overall team was a minute away from losing to the Hawks tonight
Flames have been good for a while other than the odd game

It’s a runaway game. Overcelebrating is Yakupovesque.

Kinda like how the Flames felt after the Chicago game.

More for me it records nothing about what the player did that led to the plus or the minus, if anything. Example - I’ve seen Huberdeau get a minus from the opposite side of the ice - nothing to do with him. I’ve seen Coleman score on a transition just when Huberdeau got off on the line change. No plus for Huberdeau.

The fact that the coaches did that in each of the last two seasons, and then the team immediately went on a losing streak is mind blowing to me.
Like you would have thought that at least Huska and co would have learned from
When they made that exact same mistake last year.

Same reason Rick Ball is a total pro and Jack Michaels is a total asshat.

Flames don't really get their teeth kicked in by any one this year. Most losses are pretty close affairs.
But they've been kicking in some teeth of late.
Seems like they're rarely out-classed. But they do frustrate with how they fail to pick up points when they should.

And if you're on the PK, it can only increase your +/-, while playing on the PP can only decrease it.

Why is O’Brien on the ice at the end there? After the scrum looked like he was yapping at Zary for mixing it up with Cooley. Pretty tough guy there Liam. Go wax your beard.

Yeah, but this is true for every hockey stat. It's a team game, and if things go well when you're on the ice, you get positive stats. If they go poorly, you get negative ones. Regardless of your individual contribution to the events. Also, line-mates and deployment/usage matter tremendously. As does luck.
Hockey stats are blunt and largely uninformative. All of them. I never understood why people want to single out +- for this fact, when it's true across the board.

Some are better than others, but yes, individual stats like that are problematic.
You won't see me argue stats for players too often. Team ones are better.
Maybe line combination stats are better.

Scoring Winger
|
Regarding +/-
Offensive players are on the ice for PP and when their team pulls the goalie when down in the last few minutes. They get scored on , they get a minus.
Defensive players are on the ice for pk and when leading when other team pulls their goalie. Score short handed, they get a + . Empty net goal 5 on 6 they get a +.
Conclusion : as both of you have mentioned, not a stat I use when analyzing a players game performance.
