As someone who also likes the Flyers this stings on multiple levels...

Why did it have to be Anaheim?

I worry about another decade of the Ducks mopping the floor with us ala the Getzlaf/Perry era..

Zegras, Carlsson, Terry, Gauthier, McTavish, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Luneau and Dostal is a pretty solid stable to build around.

Throw in a top pick this year to boot.

I could see them winning the Lottery this year too.

They feel a bit due. They didn't win the Bedard lottery last year, lost the Crosby lottery.

We'll see what the cap has to say about it

Fair enough but they have multiple pieces so losing one or two won't hurt too much.

They can also offload a number of vets as these younger guys contracts are up.

Killorn, Henrique, Silverberg, Strome, Vatrano, McGinn, Fowler, Gudas, Lybushkin and Gibson all have healthy cap hits that can be eased out as time goes along.

I realize it won't be as easy as I may be making it seem but you can't deny the fact that Anaheim is in an amazing situation moving forward.

If you aren't a contender, there aren't many teams better setup for the future.

The 2nd round pick they received will be an early one.

Flyers gave up the best player in that trade imo

Realistically Flyers needed a Drysdale more than a Gautier.

Good trade for Philadelphia otherwise they just end up with a 2nd round pick from the NHL as compensation I think. They have one of those this year.

So to get a highly drafted prospect and that pick is pretty good.

The CHL and international guys get drafted within a month of being drafted, so that's not really an example.

College guys all generally sign to burn that year of their ELC. Flames have done it with Coronato, Gaudreau, tried to with Fox, etc. Happened with Kent Johnson in Columbus.

I honestly can't really think of a time where a player wanted to sign and turn pro after the college season was done and it was the team that went "No, we don't want to sign you"
What if Phoenix pulled the same thing as Philadelphia but it didn't bother Cooley like it did Gauthier? We wouldn't have heard about it if that was the case.

maybe but only because of injury

Lindros when healthy was up there with the all time greats

1995 in the heart of the trap era. 115 points and 163 PIMs in 73 games...it was one of the greatest seasons of all time

But the reality is he was oft injured and not the same so therefore Forsberg turned out to have the better career and was the better player.

Or. Anahiem has 27 points. Their young players aren’t producing anything positive in terms of wins. Gauthier might ljust add to that.

Just because they are picking up young players doesn’t guarantee anything. Other than getting younger.

Who’s to say Philly doesn’t win the trade? They also got a 2nd round pick did they not?

Are the Flyers still in a world of trying to move Sanheim?

They were trying to give him away in the offseason IIRC.

Like when the Flames were the only team in the league to not send a PJ to transport Johnny to the all star game in his last year here.

Okay, so, first of all 1995-96 was categorically not "in the heart of the trap era": it was actually a last hurrah for higher scoring. Goals-per-game-per-team averaged 3.14, which was the last time it would exceed 3.00 until the 2005-06 season (where it was 3.03), and is a mark that hadn't been eclipsed until last season (3.18).

Second of all, do you know who had 116 points that year?

PETER FORSBERG!

So get outta here with this "it was one of the greatest seasons of all time" bull####: it wasn't even the greatest individual season that frickin' year!

^^ Not to mention Lemieux had 160 points in 70 games that same season lol.

Ps. The top 10 players in scoring all had over 100 points each. It was most definitely not "in the heart of the trap era."

yeah Lindros' flagship season was probably the year prior, 94-95, that was a shortened season though

I've gone through a few pages and haven't seen this mentioned yet, but apparently his favourite team/player growing up was PITT/Sid.
