Willian Nylander extension (8 Years, $11.5M AAV)
Friedman on Headlines even goes as far as saying we may hear about it on Monday.

Big money but you can’t say he didn’t earn it. He’s also been their most consistent playoff performer since his time on the Leafs

Tre hoping he didn't just make another untradable deadweight contract. Nylander looks like he won't disappoint though.

Less chance of Nylander disappointing on this deal simply because he isn't changing teams or usage.
Questions will ensue when Treliving fires Keefe and replaces him with Sutter next season, and Nylander comes out of the gate slow. Yes I am joking.

Really good job by Tre to get this done. There's no discount here but Nylander is a top producer in the league.

This is the nail in the coffin for their cap structure. Better hope that 3 guys can carry a team through the playoffs assuming Tavares is gone after next season. Do they have enough to also resign Marner?
Team hasn't had a great goalie in a very long time. Defense has been suspect for nearly as long. Have they not learned how to build a winning team yet?

I was hearing it was around the $90M range, I guess Tre was convinced to add another $2M.
The biggest question remains - which restaurant did they go to, and what did they order?
Also, will Tre trade Marner in the off-season?

There’s only 1 GM in the league who has paid over 10 mil per year to 2x 2nd line players and I’m very glad he isn’t managing the flames anymore

Seems like a lot for a player who has never hit 90 points.

They’ll be fine. Cap going up pretty much almost offsets the difference, and Tavares will likely take a discount in 2025.

Is this the Belgian Willian who plays for Fulham?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willia...ler,_born_1988)
Or William Nylander of the something, something Leafs?

Define fine. Good regular season team that’s not good enough to win in the playoffs? That’s fine I guess but this simply ensures their top heavy salary structure that hasn’t worked in the playoffs (where depth is tested) will keep them from winning the ultimate prize. Good luck winning a cup with mediocre defense and goaltending which their salary structure dictates.

fine, have you seen their goaltending and D?
They have 12 regulation wins in 37 games
playoff success seems unlikely

By paying him more, he will play better. That's how Toronto will make the playoffs.
