The problem is now he will prevent us from bottoming out.

It is also makes you wonder how many officials have someone putting wagers on games they work. It's not like it hasn't happened in other leagues before. I am not saying it is happening but I would not be shocked.

We know Conroy is actively working on trading away a number of pending UFAs. The team is operating with a bigger picture view (yes!), so I think we should be happy with where things are/trending. So I think you have to park the lip service and acknowledge it for what it is - ensuring management doesn't allow a lazy atmosphere to set in within the locker room.
Positives this year? The youth being further along that most of us expected. Work ethic is on-point, and there are positives coming from some of the veterans (Huby slowly putting it together, Marky's bounce back, Naz being great, Coleman legitimately taking a step forward).
What's happening right now is just...fine. I hope the team locks in their own 1st as a top-10 pick after the UFAs are traded. Add that top-10 pick to the returns for the UFA and things begin to start looking brighter.

Not sure why it bothers me, but if they just came it and said we are rebuilding it would piss me off less.
Hey are either incompetent at judging where the team is at or lying to their customers.
Just be honest.

I agree, and the way they handled the off-season is why I canceled my season tickets.
I hope that their actions speak louder than words in the coming weeks.

I’ll be honest. I think the Flames are going to destroy them.

Zary had a rough game. Aside from the penalty he didn’t have his best stuff.
That would have been a good game to have Gilbert. I think he enjoys the rough stuff.

They would have to be very flat. With the Hawks missing arguably their best 8 players, it should should be the Flames easiest game of the year.

I also think that the Flames are going to come out of the gate hard against Chicago.
They have been playing well consistently. I think the penalties took most of the energy out of the Flames this afternoon, as well as the rough stuff too. I think the Flames enter that Chicago game pissed off more than anything.

I wouldn’t be shocked, as mentioned by others above it’s happened in other sports already. You might recall this from a couple years ago where former referee Tim Peel was fired for getting caught on mic saying he was evening up the calls.

One of the few times this year I didn't like their effort. Markstrom nearly stole a point for them. His teammates owe him a steak dinner for that game.
On to the next one. Try not to lose two in a row.

There was no suggestion he was doing it for money.

If I was tasked with investigating whether there was suspect calls made in furtherance of a gambling issue, this game would be on the list of ones to look at.
Or it was just incompetence.

Why didn't Sutter get this Markstrom? Do coaches have no responsibility for the goalies? In my view, they coach and are responsible for the whole team under their guidance.

Small sample size, but the Flames are 0-3 in eastern afternoon games so far this season (Philly, NJ, and Detroit), and over the years, it does seem like western team don't do so well in them. Maybe if I have time, I will look at previous years for the Flames, but I won't do every team because that would be too much work.

I mean...this is a double-edged sword.
I think it goes without saying that 2021-22 Markstrom played like a bag of ass.
I believe he was literally the worst starting goaltender in the NHL?
We can blame coaching, but he also couldnt stop a beach ball.
It was a giant s### sandwich. Everyone has to take a bite.

I would think so but, then again, I thought they were going to come out strong in the third today after a poor sexond.
Yes, the officials were (very) bad today but this was one of this teams poorest efforts of late, IMO.

It should've been 2.
And I agree, it wouldn't have been a call at all if that guy didnt try to avoid a hit to the extent he did.
By trying to avoid a hit by stopping and turning, his leg buckled and between that and ducking, Lindholm's shoulder to shoulder hit turns into a shoulder to head hit along the dasher.
It's a pretty standard play for guys to dump it in and know they are going to take a hit and absorb it, not get away from it.
From there, the instigator was called correct and sure, fighting I guess...but an extra 2 for Lindholm for.... roughing?

Markstrom has been up and down in Calgary with multiple coaches. I think Sutter's system makes goalies look good for the most part. Markstrom was pretty terrible last year, and I'm not sure you can lay that at Sutter's feet. Although we weren't in the room, so it's possible Sutter treated him very poorly.
