My cell phone pricing hasn't changed.
5 lines all BYOD.
TV/Internet package increased slightly due to the 2 yr contract expiring.

My internet/tv plan with Shaw expires at the end of the month. They sent an email telling me I can keep all the "great" services that i now enjoy for $20/month more. Really wish I had some competition here in Lethbridge other than Teksavvy/VMedia. Telus isn't in my area and Shaw knows it. Shaw salesperson comment was "we know you don't have any options, so unfortunately you can take it or leave it".

Rogers announces price increases. Has a system wide outage in Ontario 4 hours after price increase announcement.

What's wrong with TekSavvy or VMedia? I'm strongly considering moving my Shaw services once the contract expires unless Shawgers comes up with some compelling reason to stay.

You can still buy an iPhone 14 in the Apple Store which is lightning and saves a few bucks versus the 15.
The idea is that you won't have to play cable roulette again and just have USB-C for everything electronic for the next 10 years.

Oxio has been great so far too. Plus they include an Eero AP.

TekSavvy is $74.95/month (after a $50 bill credit for 12 months) for 1 Gbps service, and includes free rental of a modem/wireless gateway combo. Bring-Your-Own-Modem (BYOM) supported.
Lightspeed.ca advertises $74.95/month, and charges for modem rental, or you can purchase your own modem from them. BYOM supported.
Oxio is $90/month for 1 Gbps service including cable modem and Eero 6 wireless gateway. BYOM not supported.
So far it looks like there are some decent options. Oxio is interesting as they have *no* phone support and look the most expensive, but they also provide good hardware. TekSavvy providing a bill credit sounds like it's the same kind of provider contract lock-in that Shawgers and Telus also do.

Threatening to cancel, and then setting up a cancellation date if they don't budge, usually works.
My parents were in a similar situation a couple of months ago with no real viable alternatives, but just setting a cancellation date a month into the future resulted in retentions contacting them and giving them a bunch of lower price offers. I think they ended up at $115 for 1 Gb + TV with $200 bill credit.
Worst case, you can just cancel the cancellation if you want/need to stay with them and they don't give you a better price.

Or just cancel the cable. I've done that multiple times and they always would phone back. But Rogers seems much more ruthless than Shaw ever was.

Huh, I'll have to check if I signed a contract when I got my Rogers sim cards (two shaw lines). I think I did? I was certainly given a same price guarantee of five years, though.

It's not so much the internet (as family has used Teksavvy before for just internet) but the tv service. It's IPtv. Had that before, but couldn't get Flames games as signal was from BC, so out of area. If it wasn't for my dad needing tv, I would be trying one of the others and just going internet.
Reviews of Teksavvy tv seem to be not great. Biggest issue is that's it's controlled through an app on your phone. Not going to cut it with a 75 year old guy. And had a couple friends try VMedia and ended up going back to Shaw as it was just poor.

I did that last time I was with Shaw. They didn't budge and I ended up cancelling and going with another company out of BC. Can't remember the name, internet was good but tv sucked. Then Shaw sent me to collections after 3 months because they forgot to mark down that the equipment was returned. No call/email/bill to let me know I owed for the equipment, just straight to collections.
I know I'll probably end up back at Shaw, just sucks when you don't have any real competition for things.

Oh wow, TekSavvy appears to have much better prices than when I shopped around.
Oxio gives you a free month every time you refer someone, so at least I've saved ~$270 that way to mitigate the gap a bit.
I'm just so lazy to change anything after the hell it was removing Shaw from all aspects of my life. It's exhausting.

When my current Shaw contract is up I'm planning on switching to Telus fiber. I've heard that if you have your own fiber ready equipment (like an Ubiquiti Dream Machine) you don't need a modem. Do you save any kind of rental fee by doing that?

Last time I was with them I was on one of the redflagdeals “pm this dude and he’ll hook you up” deals, so I had the modem rental discounted, but their official position is they don’t support direct fibre to customer equipment. The guy told me they obviously can’t stop you from plugging your sfp gpon into a dream machine pro if you have one, and it would work, but only if you have the 1gig plan. For 1.5 and above they were using xgspon and you need telus equipment as a bridge to the dream machine as they won’t let it direct connect (or at least, wouldn’t at the time). Either way, their official position was they had to leave the telus equipment with the customer and set up, and whatever you did after that was on you (but you got the privilege of paying for the gear either way).

They may as well have sent you a Nutcracker in the mail.
Except that would have cost money.

Stay away from Rogers, had them for years in Ontario and they are a nightmare. Constantly raise rates, internet randomly goes out quite often, constantly raise rates, cell goes down occasionally, constantly raise rates, cable tv only gives you some channels unless you pay a fortune and most of those channels are showing the same programming, constantly raise rates...
