Either way, it sucks for Patrick, but good on him for prioritizing his health.

He's a young man and theres a long ways to go yet.

He didn't play again after the stick in the eye, but retired due to post-concussion syndrome.

Eric Lindros, Adam Deadmarsh, Pat Lafontaine, Mark Savard, Paul Kariya, Steve Moore, Rick Nash
Ironically Scott Stevens retired due to a concussion. But not from a hit.

Keith Primeau comes to mind as a notable one too.

We are probably forgetting about a few prospects who had to hang the up before their careers even got going.

There is something wrong with my brain.

Every time I see this thread on the main page I am doing a double take, because I keep reading:

"Nolan Patrick dies at 25"

So do most of the teams that never win a Stanley Cup.

For crying out loud, how many times do we have to go through this? Nine out of ten Stanley Cup winners come from a pool that includes nine out of ten teams. It proves nothing.

At first I thought you mean't Bryan Berard. I didn't remember (or know) that was why Pronger retired.

Ever thought about the fact that every Stanley Cup winner has a goalie?

Makes you think.

They’ve all had at least one Canadian.

Hope he can lead a healthy life after retirement.

As to his on ice play, he was pretty disappointing even before the injuries. As mentioned, Heiskanen, Makar, Petterson drafted right after him. That's an oof.

Ferland. The fact he had two or three concussion in the first year in Carolina the first one the first few weeks. A few here too, including Game 1 vs the Ducks when the Ducks made sure he wasn't going to run around like he did vs Vancouver.

And there are a lot more than that, less high profile players. Lombardi was really never the same here or in Phoenix after Hatcher elbowed him in the Wings series in 2004.

Absolute steal of a trade considering Fox wasn't coming here.

Wonder why not formally retired for Patrick. No rush I guess but maybe something else afoot.

Sucks to see, thought he was a really good player with huge potential.
