Still on the books for next year.

But it is apparent he’s not that player, needs to play with the right kind of player to put up points.

Not to mention he would be dirt cheap to acquire as a pending UFA and without good stats this year.
This is still a flyer I'd take a risk on and see if it can at least ignite Huberdeau if chemistry is the issue. The Flames are locked into Huby's contract, lets try all the spark plugs we can, even if they come dirt cheap. Low risk, high reward IMO.

And? He is only costing them $4M, that is great value for a guy on pace for 30 goals. If you are going to cap dump a player if you are the Avs it is Girard for sure.

Who is taking Girard's contract without a sweetener. That one is way worse and wouldn't want it on the Flames

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Dumb question, can Girard (or any player) be moved while on the player assistance program?

Can they even trade Girard right now?
Didn't be step away from the team/is in the player assistance program?

It would have to be another 1st or something for me. I have never liked Girard though.

I think if the Avs acquire Lindholm they do so as a rental only. They don't really have to make any moves to accomodate him as rental and not a long term piece.

I agreed no sense to invest on Duclair unless it’s a free option to try. He is a UFA, we can get him in the summer , it’s not like the Flames need to win now. They are selling.
|
I am of the opposite mind set actually. If we get Duclair this season then if he doesn't workout no harm no foul. However, signing him 'for free' to anything more than a 1 year deal could backfire, and then you're stuck with yet another bad contract.

Depends on what it is. I'd probably go up to three years as the Flames will need warm bodies once they trade Dube and Mangiapane

I get the warm bodies argument, it can create its own problems though. We got guys like Bollig, and Raymond as warm bodies. Arguably they took a spot in the lineup that could've been used on a prospect. Vancouver made an even bigger mistake with the likes of Roussel, and Beagle. They compounded the mistake in the trade for OEL.
I think half a year tryout with Huberdeau in a meaningless season would be a good option.
As for Mangiapane, I think he would be difficult to trade, until next year's deadline.

On the other hand it could be similar to the Toffoli situation with the Flames where a team would be interested in getting him for 2 playoff runs and not just one. Where they are not interested in just pure rentals.
There will be teams that remember Mangiapane in the world championships and the 35 goal season and think that he can be that hard working player that will provide scoring depth for their second or third lines and by getting the extra year are more comfortable making the deal.

Avs fans like 1st + Ritchie + Johansen. I'd do that everyday for Lindholm.

Take it and run. And then flip Johansen for more picks.

Eklund is still around it seems, so just for discussions sake:
Quote:
Elias Lindholm is 100% moving on after turning down a MEGA offer from the Flames….There is no shortage of suitors…I am working on the Rumor Chart, which will launch soon, and currently my percentages for Lindholm would be…
Calgary 10%
Colorado 45%
Boston 30%
LA 10%
Florida 5%
A source tells me that Colorado has “a huge lead in the Lindholm sweeps, and they want to make the deal before the Bruins start getting more serious…”That appears to be happening now…The Bruins are making calls, and the team everyone wrote off is still the dominant force they have been for decades…
What will it take to land the prize?
There is no discount at this point…
I am told a 1st, 2nd, and 2 prospects (1 or both preferably a d-man)

In terms of a D Sean Behrens from Colorado's system would be a good get. And of course you've got Gulyayev as well. Doubt you get both.
Maybe one of them.,

I'll never forget the trade deadline day Sportsnet brought Eklund in for their broadcast and it was some dude sitting in a dark room like he was a Bond Villan about to be revealed.

Eklund can't math. Lindholm 100% moving on but there's a 10% chance he stays.
OTOH, I guess in a world where you can give 110% that makes sense.
