Giving Corey Pronman some love ...

Here is 2020 NHL draft ranking write up on Zary

Quote:
Zary was one of the top players in the WHL in his third season in the league and the major reason why Kamloops led the WHL in scoring. Zary is a very entertaining player, as he’s one of the most skilled players in the draft. His touches with the puck are very quick, he’s extremely creative and he can beat defenders clean consistently. He had numerous moments this past season where he pulled off a highlight real-caliber play. Zary is a very smart offensive player. He can make the seam passes and find teammates very well, but also makes plays happen through unconventional ways. He scored a lot of bad angle goals this season, and he finds teammates in situations where there doesn’t seem to be a play. Zary is a highly competitive player. He doesn’t just dangle on the perimeter, he attacks the net, he pressures defenders and he is in the face of his opponents constantly. He can kill penalties and run your power play. The major knock on Zary is his skating. Some scouts think it’ll be pro average, some think below-average. I lean to the former camp. It’s not great, and the stride breaks down at times, but I think the stride is good enough that he’ll be able to skate at the NHL pace.
That is pretty much spot on to the player we are seeing today.

If you remember back to the World Jr. team he played on, which all the "experts" predicted he wouldn't make, he started off being on one of the lower lines and his ability in all area's of the game moved him up. He ended up killing penalties and playing some on the PP. The kid has always had the total hockey package and seems to have developed well.

You have no problem running here to whine about other things. Why not this as well?

CP PGT after a Flames win against a team they "should" have lost to:
- whining about Hubie
- whining about whining about Hubie
- arguing about whining about Hubie
- arguing about whining about whining about Hubie

We get it. He's not producing. There's a thread for that...it doesn't need to pollute EVERY convo about EVERY subject.

Ugh. Sometimes this forum is absolutely intolerable.

---

On the bright side:
- thought Oesterle had a decent game...kept it simple and didn't make any glaring errors (at least that I saw)
- Yegor! Can't ask for much more from this guy that was generally disparaged when the trade was done
- Zary -- this guy is amazing and it pisses me off that he hasn't entered the Calder convo yet; he is brilliant and Iggy-like at protecting the puck and spotting opportunities that others don't see
- Greer - Like Yegor, can't ask for much more from a 4th liner. Impressed with his drive.
- Vladar - mostly steady and kept in his net; good game and pissed at Bieksa for jinxing the s/o

interesting for sure. I admit I had sort of lost track of him as a top6 candidate, but really his cohort specifically is /was maybe going to end up hard to track and predict. lots of lost time in the 18 months after March 2020, but even looking back at his 20-21 season 31 points in 24 games across the AHL and WHL at 19, then gets hurt to start the next season

I guess point being, there is a lot in his early pedigree and scouting reports to suggest he is the legit player we are seeing now as opposed to a lesser tier guy riding a heater

impressive on him to deliver

I'll give props to Oesterle, thought he was fine, and the numbers seem to support it. doesn't mean I wasn't anxious every second of what seems like a lot of time (in reality I'm sure it wasn't ) when he was on the ice with Kucherov (including 4 on 4 time)

I thought last night was possibly Mangiapane's best game of the season.

I wanted us to trade up for Mercer, would have been okay with Schneider and wanted Forester ahead of Zary but to see him in the show he really passes the eye test. Forester is tracking well but doesn’t bring the complete cerebral package that Zary does. So kudos to all who had Zary as a legit player during that draft.

I saw him for the wranglers last year and he as the best player on the ice skill and poise wise.

I remember his pre draft hype was about the whole package and one that could play at center. To me he looks like a winger with his skating but he has compete, poise, playmaking acumen, and nice scoring instincts. This kid is a great pick at his spot in the draft and we ended up with Poirier and Boltman in addition. Forester mercer and Schneider are going to have really blow our three out of the water for those trades to be considered a wash.

Poirier alone looks like he could really tilt the balance. Especially if he can play passable to average nhl defence. He could really run a PP.

And if Boltman can be a steady bottom pairing dman that’s great value.

Mercer was gone so he has nothing to do with it

If Zary continues the Flames lost nothing moving down and got Poirerr for free.

Boltman was a reach that doesn’t look good at the moment

and awesome Flames win!

Currently AJ is signed for the league minimum, so if he keeps playing like this I would consider extending him for 2-3 years at a cap friendly price.

Greer has been given an opportunity and he’s making the most of it so far.

I think he brings a physicality to the lineup that we need, he has no problem sticking up for his teammates, and seems to have the respect of everyone.

Greer was the 39th pick overall and clearly the combination of size and skill is there. I think it’s taken Greer a bit to hit his stride, but I would not trade him away for a pick at the deadline.

We need to be all over picking up draft capital right now. If a guy like Greer comes in and plays really well in his role, like he has, you go to him as a pending UFA and say "we need to talk contract now and if we can come to an agreement that works we'd love to have you going forward, but if you're going to wait until the season is over we will trade you before the deadline".

This is a not a playoff year and he's a pending UFA, so there is no value in keeping him for the season if he's going to test free agency. You take a 3rd or 4th or whatever it is.

There's a slow mo replay on Twitter of his end to end goal. It's doubly impressive in replay in slow motion. The defender knocked his stick off the puck twice and Zarys speed and strength won out.

That's why he said "trade up" for Mercer.

Is there any reporting that a trade up was even available, much less considered and rejected?

Also for those that don't know she's doing a home town show at Cowboys Tent on the first Friday of Stampede. Pretty cool for a 20 year old.

Kiesza as talented as she is, is more of a one hit wonder with all due respect.

As for the hockey game nice win. Always good when the Flames win and Oilers lose.
Tate also did a collaboration with another fairly successful artist from Calgary who came along a few years earlier (Elizabeth Lowell Bolland - a.k.a Lowell). Lowell's song Palm Trees was featured in FIFA 15, and has 1.2 million views. It's nice to see local artists in the city promoting each other like that. For whatever reason, Lowell is more popular in Europe than Canada though.

I still think Tegan and Sara probably deserve a mention, but they have been around for a long time and their stardom didn't come overnight.

Not to my knowledge. I think it's more fan wishes than anything.

The poster said they wanted the Flames to trade up for Mercer. Rather straightforward statement and in the great tradition of internet discussion, their statement is being dissected, misunderstood and refuted.
