This should be one of the more interesting Oscar races in years (to me anyway). I really enjoyed all of Killers of the Flower Moon, Holdovers, Barbeheimer, and seems like they should be the obvious top 4 and all wildly different movies.

Poor Things says hold the phone.

Lots of "best movie" buzz around it so far. Wide release coming next week.

I'll be there with bells on (not literally).

Read the phrase "unlike anything I've seen" more than once scanning through reviews. Inject this originality into my veins.

If it's possible to do a more stripped down version that isn't about facing world domination every movie (perhaps take a page from the recent Man from U.N.C.L.E film) while putting a funnier and charismatic lead in the role IMO that would be the right direction.
On that note, https://variety.com/2023/film/news/h...or-1235652975/

Cavill was essentially second choice to Craig, but deemed a too young looking.

Elba is in his 50's already. He is way too old to play the role. I will give the Craig era credit for at least casting more age-appropriate women to play Bond girls. Some of those later Moore films were creepy-cringe. Remember Bibi Dahl in For Your Eyes Only?

Also, i would think they want another good run of 4-5 movies with a new Bond, so they would certainly need to be young enough to still be viable a dozen years from now

I was a big Stringer Bell fan, but just can't see him as Bond. I think some people push for it as being edgy, while on the other side, some people would absolutely lose their ####.

Remember when Craig was cast and *gasp* he was blonde?!?!?

Casting Lashana Lynch as 007 in NTTD was a pretty fun troll though

Was it any good? It's pretty much the only thing playing right now, but the trailer isn't selling me on it.

I do. For the info of anyone who doesn't know: Lynn-Holly Johnson was 22 when she appeared as 'Bibi' in For Your Eyes Only. The British actress Jill Bennett, who played 'Bibi's coach, was 50.

The 'main' Bond Girl in For Your Eyes Only—French actress Carole Bouquet—was herself only 23 (~16 months older than Johnson).

The other Bond Girl in the movie, Cassandra Harris (a.k.a. the first Mrs. Pierce Brosnan), was 32.

Roger Moore was 53.

In 1983's Octopussy Maud Adams played the titular character; she was 38. Moore was 55.

In 1985's A View to a Kill, leading lady Tanya Roberts was 35. Grace Jones and Alison Doody played henchwomen to Christopher Walken's primary antagonist; Jones was 36, and Doody was a mere 18. Moore was 57.

Alison Doody would go on to play 'Elsa Schneider' in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade a mere four years later, at age 22. Her character was a love interest of both the titular Dr. Jones played by Harrison Ford—46 at the time—and his father, the elder Dr. Jones, played by Sean Connery—58 at the time.

I really liked it.

It's a musical, which I didn't know going in so be prepared for lots of signing and dancing.

We saw it in IMAX format, so the visuals were pretty stunning.

Timothee Chamblee and Hugh Grant are quite good.

It's a fun two hours through Wonka land.

For two major reasons.

1. I loathe 'Shaky-cam.'

2. I couldnt get over it. I had read the books way, way before the film was even a glimmer of a thought, and I got really excited for the movie aaannd.....it was a giant let-down.

I mean, they took the characters and the basic premise of Bourne and then everything else is completely different.

I dont like to be a 'book snob' but this was one was so egregious I just couldnt get over it.
The Treadstone series is pretty good on Amazon. Though I've only watched about half of the season.

The World is Not Enough was fun but a step down from the previous 2 Bond films. It just felt too cartoonish and so many jokes/quips it felt very similar to recent MCU films. GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies also had those elements but in less quantities and it worked better.

Saw it with my wife last night and agreed with this, we really enjoyed it. Nice performances and a good story, quite funny without being try hard, and great imaginative visuals. I think it will play very well all through the holidays.

I'm working my way through as many Argento films as I can find.

So far I've seen:
Deep Red (1975)
Suspiria (1977)
Inferno (1980)
Tenebre (1982)
Phenomena (1985)
Opera (1987)
Two Evil Eyes (1990)
Sleepless (2001)

I bought a bunch on 4K too because his films are so striking visually and the sound design and music is usually a highlight too. Suspiria was the first to arrive and looks and sounds brand new, it's incredible.

Just rewatched the Commitments for likely the 36th time. It's always on my list when anyone asks about movies but I still forgot how great it is.

Hilarious movie. Easily one of my all time favourite music flicks.

Blows my mind that the cast featured a young Glen Hansard, and also notably had the Corrs as extras/bit players. Ireland is a small, small island.

Anyway, had to post this:
