Well, I really hope we don't get another Rory Fitzpatrick push to make something stupid a wonder of Canada.
And I agree that 'The Rockies' are too broad. A wonder should be a place that inspires awe. I vote for that lake we see on the back of the $20 bill. Also, Banff Springs Hotel as well as Chateau De Fortenac (sp) should be on there. If the Manitoba Legislative building is, those two deserve a nomination at least.

agreed on the Rockies. There are many beautiful places there (Lake Louise is a wonder I think) pick a few of them, not the whole thing.

Exactly what I said. Like for instance, they have the #1 highway on there and the Banff to Jasper scenic tour is not? And the highway from Banff to Lake Louise is consistently voted one of 10 most scenic drives in the world. Only CBC could come up with such winners for a top 50 list.

These lists always bug me because there are so many factors in how you vote. Is The Stanley Cup really a wonder? I'd submit it's an icon or symbol. Also I don't think it's fair lumping everything in a single category. I think they should be split into "Seven Natural Wonders" and "Seven Manmade Wonders".

I was thinking this same thing, if this is the best, I wonder what was left off, especially since there were over 25,000 to begin with. I can just imagine. Sikome lake, calgary tower, nose hill park?

Bump now that the official list is out : http://www.cbc.ca/sevenwonders/
What do you think?

CBC seems to have gone with the "safe" choices - geographically and culturally diverse. I can't disagree too much, but I would have liked to see one of the engineering feats included: CN Tower, Confederation Bridge, or the Trans-Canada Highway.

Nitpick: CBC didn't select the top seven; they were voted on by Canadians by telephone and via the web.

Most glaring omission: the Northern Lights

[Edit]
Actually, I'm wrong. The CBC judges picked those seven. The peoples' choices are here: http://www.cbc.ca/sevenwonders/results.html
And yeah, very boring, "safe" choices by the CBC. Does anyone really believe it's a coincidence they picked something from each region?

Atlantic Provinces: Pier 21
Quebec: Old Quebec City
Ontario: Niagara Falls
Manitoba/Saskatchewan: Prairie Skies
Alberta/BC: Rocky Mountains
Territories: the Igloo

Not bad choices, by it seems like they chose them just like a new PM picks his cabinet, making sure each province/region receives representation.
