What a joke pro sports are. $700 million? Then teams have the audacity to make tax payers pay for new arenas and stadiums. #### off. $700 million to hit and throw a ball…

This is what is so broken about pro sports. Teams cry poor that they can't build their only basic infrastructure and then we see contracts like this.

Yep, it's too bad city's haven't figured out how to say no to that aspect. Also add in the billions of cable carriage fees Americans pay for RSNs that less than 10% watch.

Dodgers are getting about 300 million a year for their tv deal and average 96,000 viewers a game. $3000/year per regular viewer, lol.

10 years/$700M. The Jays dodged a bullet here, nobody is worth that contract.

Yeah if the price is that high that’s fine with me. Toronto was likely just leveraged to push the price up. Always the bridesmaid I suppose. Still crazy numbers.

Do they? That's a hard sell when the top 3 payrolls missed the playoffs last year, and 3 division winners were in the bottom half of the league in payroll.

Being stupid in free agency isn't the only path to winning or even a very good path.

Say what you want about 7 years $700 million, but Ohtani would have undoubtedly improved the Jays chances at a world series win for the next few seasons.

It's just sports. Why you hefta be mad?

The Dodgers were favorites for years to land him. To be honest, I think they Jays dodged a bullet.

A lot of that money is for spectacle and marketing.

If the only goal is winning a world series, I think 70m/year could definitely been spent better to improve their odds.

No mad, just wondering how they are going to spin it, and how quickly. They put probably the most organizational and ownership resources and time on this over the past 2+ weeks ever, so while there would be a let down, their messaging now, and really all offseason, should be clear, honest, timely and on point.

This forum shows there's enough stupid fans to demand the city pay for it and that the billionaires shouldnt have to pay it all or even part, just look at our arena deal threads. The whole everything with sports and money is broken, why should athletes even get a million a year let alone this. People just continue to pay stupid ticket prices allowing them to do so and applaud public money to build arenas

Man just about anything they do this off season is going to seem so "blah" now haha

Unless they land Yamamoto

Hopefully they have a surprise or two up their sleeve.

"Best" case scenario, what would that be in so far as straight up adding new players? Bellinger, Yamamoto, and Chapman comes back on a good deal, and maybe one of Teoscar or Gurriel comes back?
