Trying so hard not to get my hopes up. The jays have certainly grabbed Ohtani's interest, but the Dodgers are just so damn good all the damn time and he's already spent the last 5 years in LA.
I do wonder how much Kikuchi is involved in all of this.
Imagine if signing him two years ago started a chain of events that lead to Ohtani and Yamamoto also going to the Jays.
It'd be pretty hilarious if they announced a Kikuchi extension at the same time as announcing Ohtani and Yama lol
If Yamamoto and Ohtani sign with us, along with Kikuchi still here and with an extension, I will file a petition to change the city of Toronto to New Tokyo

Torontokyo
We can petition Disney to set Big Hero 7 there.

If they were to add the 80-90ish million that those two will cost not only will they be above the threshold they will be significantly above the 2nd threshold on 2nd time payee (which is a 75%-90% tax on the overage depending on the total amount). I mean they could maybe do some creative accounting to keep it below the 3rd threshold... but the point is that it'll be some hefty extra scratch.
For some reason i thought they stayed below last year and would be a first time offender.
I guess I was looking at the 2nd level - Which is the one that actually matters - But yes this would put them well into that level.

If Kikuchi helps us get Ohtani and/or Yamamoto, we should instantly put his name on the Level of Excellence and give him the Order of Canada.

The rant he's referring to. The weather thing is kind of stupid because baseball is a summer sport and he wouldn't have to deal with colder weather until closer to the playoffs.
That guy is the absolute last person we need representing Canada and our team. He reeks
He’s everything I dislike about today’s media and society in general. He loves propping himself up as this higher almighty doer of good. It’s all surface level bull####. Performative nonsense all the time from him. Same to Jimmy Kinmel. These guys used to be dirtbags on tv and now they’re acting like they’ve done nothing wrong. What jokes.

Sid has had some rants in the past that he's passionate about and legit, but it seemed to encourage him to take it to a WWE schtick level. Especially now that he's on a general morning show and no longer a sports focused one, any sports topic he goes over the top almost as an ego boost.
Funny that as soon as the media types scurry back onto planes and head back to wherever they come from after a few days in LA, things go quiet.
