The term will be interesting on this one. Is it a multi-year commitment to Detroit or a one-year deal with bonuses from a team with cap space to spare who can cash in at the deadline if they fall out of the playoff picture?

Thought he would good home. But Detroit has definitely made big strides and it looks like the Yzerplan is starting to come together

Have to think DeBrincat played a part in this. He and Kane played great together in Chicago.

Big middle finger to Buffalo, as this makes Buffalo's chances at playoffs even more slim.

Kane doesn't play goal so I don't see much of a change for the Sabres. They need to get better goaltending. Comrie and Levi have been bad.

Does Kane have to sign a deal before Dec 1 to play this season? Does that rule still exist? Even for UFAs?

Okay, that makes sense. If Detroit falls out of the playoff picture, they can get a decent haul for him at the deadline.

That only applies to RFAs.

Will be interesting to see if this could create a trickle effect in the East - where the playoff picture is likely to be a battle this year.
Leafs really need to improve their defense, want one of the top 3 division spots that Detroit holds right now, and I wonder if this would get them to maybe up the ante a bit on Zadorov.

Islanders, Sabres, Devils, and Penguins are also all at that point where they probably have to decide if they want to push to get in, or if they are okay if they fall back a bit here. I think the Flyers will drop off but also don't see them moving futures or prospects at all.

I'm curious to see how Kane does this year. Last year, he really fell off. If he's healthy and motivated I wonder what Kane the Wings will be getting.

I thought it was a sure bet he was going to the Oilers so they could have Kane and Kane on the same line.
Then they'd just have to sign a guy named 'Abel.'
