Hopefully everyone can start getting over losing Toffoli for Sharangovich and a 3rd.
Toff still has something like 9G, 16P, and is pretty close to a PPG. The PP definitely misses his shot. That said he has been a minus player more often than not for some reason. I find it a bit surprising because he was good defensively for the Flames.
I really hope Sharangovich can keep this up. He has been great in the last 5 games. This last stretch has me really optimistic, especially if we could use him better on the PP.
As an aside Toffoli and Sharangovich have a very similar shot percentage this year, around 14.5%.
Welcome back to this Black Friday edition of "Who Is That Player?" Today we look into the only South Dakotan to ever play in the NHL, Walker Duehr.
Hailing from Sioux Falls right along the Minnesota border (which I hear is lovely this time of year), Walker went undrafted while barnstorming around the Upper Midwest, making stops in Sioux City (different place), Tri-City (no idea), Chicago, and Bloomington before attending 4 years of college in Mankato, Minnesota.
Signed as a free agent by Calgary, Duehr began his professional career with their AHL affiliate putting up what could perhaps be described as Nic Caamano levels of production. That was enough to make the big club however (when helmed by Daryl Sutter) and Walker now finds himself a full-time Flame rather than a wayward Wrangler.
The 26 year old right wing could be described as a power forward with some elements of speed to his game. After an impressive preseason one Flames blog breathlessly posited that he may end up as a household name in the NHL! If that happens, you heard it here, well, second, I suppose. Even the official Flames' site floated his name as this year's potential X-Factor that could swing Calgary's long star-crossed fortunes. So keep your eyes peeled for that famous South Dakota Stampeder, #71 in your programs and #1 in your heartlands, Walker Duehr.
This has been, "Who Is That Player?"
My team is good, therefore gimme your UFAs

Which Flames dman ends up in Dallas? Zadorov or Tanev?

Why not both

We will take Chris Tanev off their hands thank you

We have Chris Tanev at home (Lian Bichsel) (hopefully) (maybe) (please)

Here I am, begrudgingly liking Zadorov now. Whaddup Flames!

Any chance Calgary wants to leave Hanifin in Dallas after this game?

Terrible defending by the Stars in this period. That was inevitable

No support defensively and Oettinger left on his butt, lol.

So I guess we do not want to play Defense at all. This is weak .

Holy #### we need defense
YEGOOOOOOOOOOOR

Awkward from Oettinger there
Quote:
Poor coverage and poor goaltending there.

Well just score again and it doesn't matter
Or do that

Anyone notice we seem to get scored on by a lot of 3rd/4th liners? Maybe it just feels like it idk but the Avs 4th line had their way with us too

Classic Suter supposed to play the trail and completely disregarding him

Flames are so easily getting chances from the Stars slot
Rosie brings it within one

Stars should be motivated to lock this game down. They don't play until next Tuesday in Winnipeg, so don't sleep on these Flames. I'm sure PDB is all over this in the locker room.
Quote:
Bad angle and not square to the shot on that one. Jake needs to be better there.
Quote:
Otter you gotta stop that.
Quote:
Zero pressure on the shooter might indicate the forwards didn't have a handle on the situation. Otter usually makes that save, but I'll just say a good goal on Calgary's part.
Quote:
Not sure who gets blamed on that one. Maybe everyone. Oettinger was fading away from the shot, but there was zero pressure on the shooter. Heiskanen's body language is that of an extremely frustrated dude. It might be ridiculous to suggest, but maybe Heiskanen should enjoy some nachos for a game to get his mind right....doubt he'd respond to that well but...man. Haven't seen him struggle like this since he entered the league.

Otter my man

This team confuses me lmfao

How about stopping the puck from going into the net huh?

The entire team's play (with the exception of Wyatt) has left a lot to be desired, but Otter legitimately looks drunk or something. Even Razor has been vocally critical of his performance tonight and that almost never happens

So the plan was to get ahead 2 goals and then just take a #### ton of penalties?

Just when I thought they couldn’t get any more pathetic then they looked against the Avs they pull out this steaming pile of week old dog####.

LOL, these ####ing guys, believing all the hype, that's how you end up like this. This is a repeat of the Colorado game. I thought they " learned their lesson." Joke team that has no killer instinct.

Both goalies are off but holy #### Otter...
5 goals conceded from 1.55 xGA. I know the team isn't helping him much but he just has these games sometimes where he looks lost

Winipeg is playing well, they could beat us 12-2 if nothing changes from this game

I think Otter loses track of the puck on the periphery or behind the net. Does his mask block some of his vision? Also he can have trouble moving from side to side and keeping balanced in the process. Too much turkey, no doubt!
Quote:
Yikes.

Otter out for a swim...needed to corral that rebound. Been a bit off tonight.
Quote:
Man, oettinger sucks.
Miro sucks this year as well

Oettinger has definitely looked slow all night. Reaction time just is not there
Probably the Stars worst defensive game this season though too every time the Flames are in the zone there's a chance

I have to admire their determination to throw this away. Commendable.
Otter is in a daze and Suter needs to be lost in a maze.

Horribleee game. So happy I didn't go to this one.
Also hope that in the future DeBoer recognizes its okay to call a timeout and even switch goalies. So weird to see this team look like a contender vs Vegas and then turn around and look like the Maple Leafs
Quote:
Very disappointing game from the guys, left a lot to be desired and a complete collapse in the third. However, we were outplayed in the third and Calgary left everything out there. I had a feeling we’d have the third period blues tonight. Stars really have to find some discipline in their game. They are all over the map this season and most every game has looked like a different team, and that is not the formula to lift the cup.

Try not to be embarrassed at home challenge: difficulty impossible

We really got to get the other long term farmhands up for a stint. Sure seems like farm development has been strong and we need to see what we have. There are some gems so far.
I bet Matt Coronato is going to be a lot more motivated after being sent down and seeing that Zary kid sticking it out on the Flames. I bet the next time he comes up he is going to have chip on his shoulder. Add Jakob Pelletier who is a bit more seasoned suddenly the gang is together and this team might hit the road running.

I didn't watch the game in real time tonight. I was dragged out to watch one of those fire juggling kind of shows, which seems oddly appropriate for the kind of game it was tonight.
I just watched the replay of the game and have to say it was a pretty solid game. The Flames never got hemmed in their own zone very often, neither team really did. Just a good back and forth game for the most part. Really glad to see them not give up at any point.
I also have to say, even though Huberdeau didn't factor in on the scoresheet, he played a responsible game.

No doubt about Coronato and Pelletier, but they’re here for a while still. I’m more interested in guys like pospisil… without a call up this year he was done right? Same with Pettersen? I think we need to give a good audition to those players because there won’t be another chance to look at them in Flames silks.

Agreed. Unfortunately this probably is a common theme for lots of teams, guys that might have benefited if given an opportunity. The Flames have taken a leap of faith this season putting guys higher up the lineup and playing them with quality players. I think they expectation that we might not might not make the playoffs this season has helped. Would be nice if could bring a few guys up, just not much room now without injuries, trades.

Said it at the time of the trade, and I'll say it again: I think in 3 years, the Toffoli trade is going to look like a huge win.
Everyone knew Toffoli would outscore Sharangovich this year, while sitting on Hughes' wing on the PP, but Toffoli is on the back 9, and Sharangovich is looking better every game.
And Suniev may have something to say about it at some point as well.

When I read the ATL, I actually think the Stars fans come off as pretty cool. There are a few who lose their #### but some are quite reasonable and even complimentary of the Flames.
And then…there’s the mouth breathers to the north.

Spoiler!
It is nice that Sharangovich has started to heat up, but I think Conroy should have gotten a little bit more for a guy who scored 73 points. Just my opinion.

Don't forget Klap-Klap-Klapka.
He has real potential to become a good middle winger for us.

There was very little market for players with significant cap hits last summer. There's been even less this season so far.

Coleman is my man this season! He is really givin' 'er! His game is great and he is exactly the kind of player I like, hard nosed, hard working and never quit! Loving his game this year.
Markstrom needs to tighten it up. We cant consistently outscore his nightly 'Marky Muffins.'
