Blades moving at the same speed as the camera frame rate?

That's exactly what it is. It's pretty amazing that they are matched up exactly, most times they only sync up for a second or so and then you see some slight movement.

You could sure mess with some people's minds though.

Neat effect. Yeah, I can see Yoda being edited in there pretty easily.

That's some good machinery there. A little explanation for others:

On a heli, the blades spin at the same constant speed. The pilot moves the heli by controlling the pitch/angle of the blades instead. This is different than a plane, which mainly controls them by changing the rpm. This camera trick wouldn't work too well with *most* aircraft.

Not if you are increasing or decreasing your altitude, which the chopper did a few times, albeit very minor. I understand what you are saying about the pitch of the blades but engine speed does increase or decrease at times.

Are we sure that it is just the frame rate of the camera? Just seems a bit fishy.

You could change altitude by changing the pitch on all the blades equally as well, judging from this video that's must be what's going on.

A second one:

Throttle on helicopters is linked to the collective pitch control (the angle of attack of the rotor blades). Engine speed does change throughout the flight envelope, but the rotor speed is kept in a fairly narrow range. The main reason for this is that it's much quicker to change the pitch of the blades to affect lift, than it is to overcome the momentum of the spinning blades.
