Gaudreau got benched for not giving a crap and has 5 points this season. Huberdeau at least cares
I don't know what's going on with him right now. But that's not the point, I'm not saying he's not been bad this year. I'm saying at least Columbus knows he can produce with them unlike Calgary with Huberdeau.
Why are we making amends with him. Johnny didn't handle his departure well at all, he left the organization high and dry, and now he's playing like he gives zero craps about his current team.
Yeah, close the book, I wish Johnny and his family all the best, but nope.

To get rid of Huberdeau

Even if this trade happened I would still want to move on from most of the pending UFA’s unless this deal resulted in a 10 game winning streak and put the Flames back in the mix by a healthy margin. Get assets for Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov and start the retool. Being Monahan back in the summer (if he would come) and continue to add youth through picks and trades over the next few years.

Sticking it out with Huberdeau looks way worse than making amends with Johnny, I think that's why it's a hot topic.
If Huberdeau was panning out here I think no one would even think about Johnny again except for the odd nostalgic fan.
Its a interesting through Pepsi, I don't deny that. I just don't know. It becomes a character thing for me. admittedly I don't watch as much Flames hockey as I used to but with JH, I don't think its about him not giving a crap. I think he's lost in the system, and maybe he never adapts. Or maybe he does.
But Johnny when I've watched him play has at times looked like he's quite.

Hubderdeau to me feels like Lucic the Oiler or Bennett the Flame. They are not living up to their billing and with a fresh start they could find a better version of themselves again. Even with changes here I am not sure that is enough. Huberdeau might need to get out of here to realize his potential. If it is a combo of terrible contracts in Montreal or really any terrible deal in the league I would welcome the change. I would trade him for Nurse straight up as well.

Wait, what?
As if we aren't enough of a tire fire in our zone.

I give you... three years of Gaudreau and Lindholm being a proven pairing. Plus a bonus year of what happens when Johnny doesn't play with Lindholm.
Spoiler!
Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Spoiler!
Gaudreau Monahan without Lindholm
Spoiler!
Gaudreau back with Lindholm plus Tkachuk
Spoiler!
Edit: I just realized I had accidentally been sorting by games played instead of xGoals %.
I went back and looked at it again, and it turns out that the top line was always whichever line Tkachuk was on lol. Man... losing him just continues to be the gift that keeps on being ripped out of our hands.

Tough post to read, Captain. Specifically the last sentence, are you saying Johnny was "quiet" as in subdued and not producing, or was "quite" the right word and you forgot to finish the sentence?

So Gaudreau and Monny have proven chemistry with guys like Hudler and Ferland should we bring them back as well?
They brought in Lindholm to play on the 2nd line and popped with Johnny and Monny and I believe Monny has 82 points that season.
They messed up the lines in pursuit of converting Lindholm from RW to C and until they got with Tkachuk it was a disaster.
It was always Johnny and Monny and find them a partner. They never went with Johnny and Lindholm searching for a partner they just put the 3 together and they went rouge and lit it up.
Markstrom has value - he’s not gonna need a throw in.
Every game I’ve watched, Markstrom has made sure it doesn’t get laughably bad in the first ten minutes. He gives a bottom-5 roster a chance every night.
He’s got two more years left at a reasonable number, and he reliably plays 50-60 games a year.
There should be a bidding war for him.

I'm not sure why people would think Gaudreau would be part of the answer here, even if this could happen. Nostalgia? He wasn't the answer before, and now he has more money and is showing he's willing to just mail it in. How would bringing him back make us legitimately better? Massive part of a core that couldn't progress. It sucks that Treliving threw #### all over the walls as he was leaving, but this wouldn't help us.

For the umpteenth time to answer this pretty obvious question: because it's better than Huberdeau.
People aren't clamoring for it because they think it's the best option for the team going forward, nor for nostalgia. It's simply because if they could swing John for John it would be a less catastrophic next 6-7 years. At least we know what Gaudreau brings in Calgary. We might never get the real Huberdeau.
It's simply picking the better of two bad $10M hands - one that we might be able to live with.
