Looking forward to a Vegas trip next week. It's been a while. The last time I was in Vegas, a buddy called to tell me the Flames had signed Todd Bertuzzi. Lots of changes.
Yep this is pretty much my only fear especially as December weather could be crap. I appreciate everyone's feedback and it's making me think it's worth booking, especially with WestJet charging an absurd 900 for the direct early morning flight.
Follow up as I just landed in Vegas flying Lynx. Zero complaints and would use them again if this is a typical experience with them. Knock wood the flight home is just as smooth.
I've used Flair and Lynx a bunch since their inception and never had any issues. But flying as a solo passenger with a carry-on probably limits the potential problems.
I went to Vegas in February, was my first time there in about 10 years. I was shocked at how insanely expensive everything had become, and encountered almost everything in that video. I have zero plans to go to the US because of the pedo in chief, but even if Trump died and the US somehow returned to normalcy I don't think I'd ever step foot in Vegas again

Its definately gone down hill big time...where is my $3.99 steak dinner? $399 now in a hotel that looks like an office building
An office building only a couple weeks removed from a Homicide.
I was there in February for my buddy's wedding, it was planned ages in advance, couldnt be helped, but I cant say it really gave me the urge to want to go back.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I went for a week in April for WrestleMania and pretty much did everything I wanted to. I'm not a gambler and didn't even play the slots once even though I planned on it. Food was expensive but so was San Francisco last year.
The only food deal I'd say I found was the $10 drink cup with free refills for life and that was 2-3 days before I left. I didn't really notice many homeless people but other than my first full day and my last day I stuck to the south area since I spent alot of time at Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena.
I think the only thing that would make me go back is a big event. I swore I wouldn't go back to the US until Trump is gone but now there's rumors Metallica is going to play a bunch of shows at the Sphere next October so hopefully that ends up being bs so I don't have to worry about changing my mind.

Really started to fall off a cliff once they lost the Asian high rollers to Macau. Everything has gotten more expensive to try and compensate for that loss. There's also not a lot unique anymore about it, save the 24 hour drunkenness that is allowed. Most places have casino gambling or VLTs, sports betting is legal almost everywhere, if it's not cheap to go or there isn't an event you want to see, it's pretty difficult to justify the expense.

Vegas wasn’t good when it was cheap either. I liked hot and juicy though.
No way, I used to love Las Vegas about a decade back. It was great, you get a flight and hotel for 3 days, its a nice short flight you just go for it, see a few shows, see some sights, museums etc.
It was awesome! I used to really like it and it was cheap like Borscht.
But after my last trip? Its a moot point until the Cheeto King is usurped either way, but Vegas is going to have to change significantly before I'd be tempted to go back.
It used to be cheap, fast and fun. Now? Not so much. I'd hate to imagine what my Hoover Dam tour costs now.

My parents wintered there for 20 years. About 5 years ago I noticed the difference. Way too expensive. Food is still good, but you’re going to pay for it. No deals anywhere. Moved Mom out of there last year, not sure if I’ll ever be back.

We typically did three or four trips a year but I haven't been in almost two years because the costs have increased so much. The casinos still send us good offers with free rooms and casino cash but it still isn't worth it. I bought tickets to the Flames game in December but ended up selling them and not going down.
That being said only the strip has really gotten expensive. Fremont is still reasonable compared to the strip but it is also getting expensive as they try to improve the experience. Local Vegas still has lots of good deals and cheap restaurants but that requires being off the strip in places like Summerlin or whatever south Vegas is called.
I was there a few months ago and was shocked by how expensive everything was…tried to do some shopping off strip in grocery stores and the groceries there usually more expensive in USD than they are here in CAD. A bag of Doritos in a grocery store was $6.49 US.
I’ve been there five times now and will never go back.

Yeah, but those places have a tendency to come with some consequences of their own...

I've been numerous times, like I said, I always liked it, but it seems to have lost some of it's luster. I'll 'never say never' but it'd take something significant to get me back.

I've seen some major local advocates trying to start movements telling visitors to stay away from Vegas. They are hoping that an extended period of lower tourism will force the casinos, businesses and tourism board to make significant changes and reverse a lot of cost increases. I can see hotel costs dropping in 2026 but I'm less optimistic about food and beverage prices going down. The explosion of celebrity chef restaurants has been the worst driving factor in food price increases. Years ago there was only a few players like Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay but now every resort has three or four big name chef restaurants or other celebrity "chains" and those come with elevated prices. The strip needs to see the return of some humble restaurants instead of Insta-worthy eateries.

Yup. I would agree with all of that. I dont like celebrity restaurants to the point where I just wont go anymore.
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville single-handedly destroyed a local restroom after one of the worst meals I'd ever had until Wolfgang Puck said 'hold my beer.'
I went to a specialty burger place and it was insane. Something like $25USD for an absolutely ginormous burger that tasted like it was cooked by an alien who'd only ever seen pictures of burgers? It was awful. McDonald's was haute-cuisine compared to this atrocity.
So yeah, Vegas is in dire need of reform because I'd love to go to a Flames game there one day, but if the Hotels, food, airfare, etc. dont normalize to a degree? I've got a comfy couch, a nice TV setup and cold beer right here.

I don't plan on it.
I didn't go to their 40th Anniversary show because of Covid so I probably would end up deciding against going to this because of Trump. But I'd rather it just be a false rumor so I don't even have to think about it this time.
I'm planning on finally going overseas next year but I'm not sure where.
