Yeah the team doesn't drive the middle of the ice.
Huberdeau has the talent to hit a guy who was driving to the net in full steam. That's how he got a lot of his points in Florida.
None of the Flames drive the middle of the ice, it's actually a bit annoying at this point, that's where you score the goals.

Scoring at this point doesn't seem to be an issue, we didn't lose by much and hit a couple of posts in the shootout. The Huberdeau talk might be a tad premature; Hopefully the Flames can find some players who click with him so the team can settle down with some consistency.
|
We don't have a top line to stack, because we don't have a Tkachuk on the team.
Its ironic but I think Tkachuk and Huberdeau would be perfect for each other and could put up massive points.
Its pretty clear Lindholm is not a line driver at this point, and Huberdeaus game is suited for someone who can get him the puck in the offensive zone.
Huberdeau - Backlund - Coronato would probably produce the most 5 on 5 offence.

Do you remember that? Button hook turnovers at the blueline, can't get it clean into the zone?
It took a while for him to kill those bad habits and find some proper linemates for him to go off.
I think once guys start going to areas he puts the puck things will ease up for him. Right now he is drawing the entire defence to him and passing through people, but he has also made great passes to guys to score easy goals that haven't been finished.
It shouldn't be that hard, Lindholm needs to start driving the puck in and dishing to Huberdeau and both him and the winger need to charge the net to get the passes or open up in the slot.
It's also not just a Huberdeau issue this seems to be a team wide issue. Trying to throw passes through people to a guy giving no support. Especially from our own end.
|
Johnny was in his early 20's doing this, not at 30 going onto 31 and making 10.5M.
Sorry, but Johnny and Huberdeau are two completely different players one brings people out of his seats even when the team was struggling.

Gaudreau has bad habits but so does Huberdeau. Gaudreau still created offence by drawing players to him and then getting the puck to Monahan/Lindholm/Hudler/Tkachuk etc. Huberdeau needs the other players to create the space which makes him a non line driver imo.

Yup, not even a remotely close comparison. Huberdeau hasn't shown an ounce of what Johnny was able to do in Flames silks. Johnny at his worst still looked like a top line player. And he was able to have one of his best seasons under the mean coach.
Heck all you have to do is watch Lindholm and Huberdeau right now and they are on different planets in terms of who looks like a legit top line forward.
Huberdeau hasn't shown us anything as Flames fans. The concern is more than warranted.

Kadri is Neal to me. Looks lost, doesn't care, and is doing dumb things.

He gets his goals close to the net, he isn't a perimeter shooter at all. That's why you see opponents cheating on his side on the PP all the time, they are begging him to shoot it. His shot just doesn't have enough velocity. But it is accurate so if he gets close to the net he can pick corners, that's how he gets most of his goals, that or collecting rebounds etc.

He cost us a 1st rounder too with the Monny trade.
You guys still need to know that his real value is in the playoffs when he injures starting goalies.

Or playoff hatty, scoring Stanley Cup finals OT winner
Kadri has been poor the first three games but lets not pretend he was a passenger on the AVS...he was one of their best players in the regular season and playoffs

Put Huberdeau on the Blue Jackets last season and +/- is probably the same. They were second last in the league while the Flames were a bubble team. +/- is only useful when comparing teammates and all the regulars got smoked. Jenner was -32. Peeke was -41.
Kadri is a good example from last year on the Flames. Worst +/- on the team.

People loving Johnny now that he is gone, and only remembering his 115 point season is hilarious.
Many nights he wasn't lifting anyone out of their seats and if they did get it up it was to curse the screen for his turnovers or poor effort.
It wasn't always rosy and he was here for what 600 games.
Huberdeau has been here for 85 games and you get all this moaning and dumb comments calling him James Neal. Neal was shipped off as soon as possible. Huberdeau is wearing a letter.

He has the Stanley Cup and he has money. It's kind of depressing as a fan, but what could be motivating anymore?

Strange to discount Huberdeau.
Huberdeau has a goal on the empty if he isn't hooked in the hands which is a automatic goal, it was a great play by Mang to follow up no doubt. Doesn't change the fact hes been invisible the last 2 games. He is not getting into shooting areas.
|
You're arguing to give Huberdeau more than 3 games (which is fine) but you're not offering the same to Mangiapane.
That hypocritical and unfair to put higher expectations on the supporting guys than the 10.5M franchise player.
Magianpane was invisible yesterday but he was the best Flames forward in game 1.
Huberdeau needs to be the best Flames on the ice once in a while; he should be very often.

Yup after the Avs series fans here wanted both Tkachuk and Gaudreau traded. After 3 games Gaudreau isn't exactly making his paycheque with the Blue Jackets.
