Feels like Kadri could be a perennial leader in getting called offside. Not sure if thats ever been tracked.

The Oilers of the mid-1980s would have that record locked down for eternity. They used to enter the attacking zone at breakneck speed, three forwards exactly abreast, to keep the defenders on their back foot. It worked maybe two times out of three; the third time they would be out of sync and a man would go in offside.
It was a no-lose play. If they weren't offside, they gained the zone with speed. If they were offside, the play was blown dead, the skaters got a rest, and they could keep the same line out for the next attempt. Those were the days before scheduled TV timeouts, so if they were lucky, they would get to catch their breath for the duration of a beer commercial.
That was a very fast team, but you'd never know it by how slowly they ran down the clock. All those offsides added a lot of off-clock minutes to the game.

You don’t want to read too much into game 3 of the season but it’s amazing how old habits die hard with some teams. Up by two goals in the 2nd period while outshooting the opposition nearly 3-1. Check. Former Flame that’s looking for career goal number one gets his goal. Check. Flames lose in a shootout where all three shooters come up empty. Check. For good measure they even got a penalty shot and of course the shooter makes it as easy as possible for the goaltender shooting the puck right into his equipment. It just feels like we have seen this game so many times over the past year.

With the big exception being quality of chances.
The Flames scored 5 on Winnipeg without generating much. Last night they had 10 high danger chances 5 on 5 and 14 overall.
Not a shot volume and control the puck, but find a way to lose scenario.
But do they have the finishing skills going forward? The top line looked pretty ragged last night for the most part.

Despite getting a point, I think I find this loss way more frustrating than the Pens one. And Bingo really outlined why

It looks to me like it's a team that simply lacks finishers. I'm thinking they may have been better off holding on to Toffoli until the trade deadline as he was the one shooter that could cash in and it's a big loss to get a 4th liner in return. I'm not saying Sharangovich is a bad player but he doesn't look like he's going to be a big contributor this season at least. Kadri simply look really bad to open the season and I feel that's maybe the move that sent this team into a tailspin as he's not been a great fit and they gave up a lot to take on his contract. To me he just doesn't look like a guy that fits on this team and what they want to do. He seems like a guy that can only flourish in a secondary role on a team full of leaders that can insulate him.

I'm worried about Kadri and Huberdeau.
Huberdeau clearly wants to contribute, but he's still forcing things that don't need to be forced. Hope he comes out of it.
Kadri ... his teammates seem to like him so guessing it's not work ethic, but vision? He doesn't see or use his linemates. His penchant for stepping off side.
Worrisome for sure.

Sharangovich looks really bad right now, but he does have a big time shot it looks like.
I think thats on the coaching staff trying to find him a line to score on, which might be the top line because Mangiapane is not a top line player. Hes just invisible without Backlund and Coleman.
Now you got a bit of a mess trying to fit in Dube, Sharngovich and Coronato on a line to produce and someone is getting 4th line minutes and won't be able to do much.

I think Sharangovich is jittery.
Moving him to the fourth line seems to have worked, as he's handling the puck better now and making plays.
From there it could go two ways ...
1) He's just suited for the 4th line
2) He moves into a middle 6 role with more confidence.
I wouldn't label him a fourth liner after three games.

You can see the shot and release and his ability to get to the middle of the ice to set it up.
Issue is could be jitters but the shot isn't get through or he is just weak.
Even 15 goals would be nice from him somehow.

There are currently no game-breakers on the team that can bury the puck when needed. Huberdeau struggling early - I'm not sure he completed a pass in the first two periods. As Bingo suggested, maybe he's forcing things. Kadri contributing very little out there with no chemistry with his teammates. Backlund seemingly back to typical first half Backlund.
On the plus side last night, the team were "connected" last night when moving up the ice and committed far fewer giveaways at either blue line compared to their previous two outings.

I'm not sure Kadri would have chemistry with anyone. He's a one man interpretive dance, not a key cog in the production of Swan Lake.

Did he play like this with the Leafs and Avs or did he completely change his game when he signed here? I didn't expect any PPG seasons from him but I don't see how he even accomplished that in Colorado unless people were bouncing pucks off his ass into the net lol

Kadri was the Flames best forward for the first half of last season

From what I remember Kadri has always been a guy that tends to try to do things himself and either doesn't have the vision to utilize his linemates or he prefers that style of play. I think Kadri needs linemates that will support him and clean up after him. I think he's a guy, in particular, that needs time to gel with his linemates and may not do as well in a line-blender scenario.

I think it comes down more to type of player to play with him than consistency.
A give and go guy would have trouble adjusting to his style.
A cycle guy would have trouble adjusting to his style.
You almost need a defensively smart (leaning F3) guy that goes to the net hard to cash in on rebounds and screens.

We've seen it before with pricey UFAs (Neal the most recent but obviously on a worse scale).
He honestly looks like a guy who's mailed it in and cashed out. He'll have some stretches where he's the player he was, but all in all, I don't think his give a crap meter is getting anywhere near the levels it needs to be at now to be a difference maker.
Prove me wrong Nazem.

That's not what I'm seeing. I'm seeing a guy who is frustrated, and is trying to re-find his game
(referring to Kadri)
