Interesting to see that Huska IS double shifting Huberdeau, Kadri, and Lindholm at times. He's putting them out together for extra shifts throughout the game.

Sutter would've put out Lucic's line given the same opportunity..
Huska making no-brainer moves alone is a making a big difference on the ice.

I was really missing Trevor Lewis and Lucic out there trying to kill off the last 90 seconds.

Apparently 6-0-1 in the last 7 home openers (including tonight), but yeah prior to last season, their previous season opening win was 2009 (a lot of road openers in that time).

The Flames were only outshot by a greater percentage than tonight one time last year.
In fact, tonight’s game has been the worst in terms of CF%, FF%, and SCF% that the team has played over any of the last two years. Huska hockey is clearly not going to be Sutter hockey. Let’s see if it ends up leading to more wins. On a positive note fancy stats wise, the relative danger of the chances against in this game were not as bad as some of the worst games the Flames have played in the Sutter 2.0 era. Not that they were great but you would have expected worse given the overall lack of possession.

The team was certainly very flat tonight, but I’m not going to apologize for winning a game we probably deserved to lose after last year.
Massive props to Markstrom who was simply awesome tonight. That’s got to be a huge confidence boost for not only himself but his teammates.

Kadri was out chanced 20-2 at five on five tonight. Yikes.
Really nice to see the top line step up when needed. Take the two points and keep building on it.

Jets have the same coach and have had the same core for years...it makes sense for them to be a little more sharp. I thought the Flames played much better in the 3rd the goal kinda came outta nowhere with a poor turnover.
If that Markstrom shows up most of the year the Flames will be in business. 30 one goal losses with .800s goaltending last season.

Also, it was nice to see the top players come out after an icing late in the game...not Lucic and Lewis (with all due respect)

Nice to get the win for Snowy, but there's plenty to work on- the boys were outplayed tonight. That's to be expected though, considering they are trying to learn a re-vamped defensive scheme, and are actually trying to "create" offensively, instead of just firing low percentage shots on net.

That was a steal of a deal from Treliving, that oddly had a portion of the fan base unhappy with "going so high on the AAV".

Weeg getting paid $6.2M and Nurse getting paid $9.5M, take that Oilers.
