However, I like our odds of finding a difference maker picking 8-12th rather than 12-16th.

Flames spend to the cap, I don't place that much value on it unless they switch modes and take cap dumps etc. I am worried that if Lindholm wants out then they go offer Schiefele the same contract. Season will ride on goaltending more than anything.

Huberdeau and Kadri don't really jive that well either. Since they're both already signed, and theoretically exist on two different top 6 lines, I don't know where we would slot lindy even if we signed him. Unless we want Kadri as our defacto 3 c or are willing to try lindy as a RW on his line.
|
Huberdeau looked best with Backlund, but that line needs a RW with high hockey IQ and scoring finish.
Huberdeau-Backlund-Coronato
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Sharangovich
Dube/Pelletier-Kadri-Coleman
Duehr-Ruzicka/Dube-Klapka/Ruzicka
When Pelletier returns in 2 months, slide Dube down to 4C, move Ruzicka to wing, and send Klapka down.

Zach Benson has been very impressive in Sabres camp and more than likely made the opening night roster. Him arriving earlier than expected could make some other prospects more expendable (such as Kulich or Rosen, who have both been assigned to Rochester). Potential targets for a Hanifin trade perhaps? Not sure if it's something that's still on the table.

I'm sure the organization would like certainty, but I can see an appetite on both sides to wait and see.
Lindholm is betting on himself that he is a 80 to 90pt Bergeron type that is one of the top 2 way centres in the league.
The Flames are willing to back up the truck for him if that's the case, but they need to see that his numbers we're not inflated playing with Gaudreau, Monahan and Tkachuk. If he's more of a 60 to 70 pt player, that 9 million number doesn't work for them. But if he proves last year was the exception and not the rule. Then they're willing to go to numbers that start with 9.
It seems like there is desire to get a deal done on both sides, which would probably explain the lack of panic right now. But the Lindholm camp wants 9mil plus to sign now. Thats not what the Flames want right now. So it seems like a bit of a game of contract negotiation chicken. The Flames could get antsy and just make the offer that he wants, or they could stick to their guns and wait and see.
If Lindholm blo s the doors off, he signs for 8x9.2
If he has another middling season, this drags on into the new year and eventually signs for 8x8.25
You heard it here first folks.

Benson is 5' 9" and 163lbs. 18 years old. Amazing player, but hard to tell if he is Patrick Kane like and can make a go of the NHL at that age and size.
If the Wanatchee Wild wasn't such a ####show, you would think he goes back to junior. Maybe they just do 9 games and see how it settles.

This is a very very unique line up, but I think it could actually be great. Personally, I'd swap Ruzicka and Coleman though.

Garlic and peanut butter?
Have you never had peanut sauce? Or sesame noodles?

Peanut sauce is delicious, 100% for that. No idea it had garlic in it. I was just trying to think of two opposing flavours I wouldn't mix naturally.

I recommend peanut sauce, with a hint of sriracha and a bit of thai chili sauce.

Schiefele would be a mistake IMO. I'd almost rather go after a winger to play with Huberdeau and Kadri. The center/winger I would be most interested in this offseason is Reinhart. I also kind of want to see a guy like Tarasenko with Huberdeau, but he is getting too old to be a good value signing.
As an aside, I think Monahan is finally going to have a huge healthy season.

Fancy stats tell a tale of Scheifele's game having serious flaws, IIRC.

Just read an article that said that Matthew Poitras has been arguably the best player at Bruins camp, and should earn an opportunity with the big club. We were talking about him earlier this summer as a target in a package for Hanifin. If he were to be offered, perhaps it's a good idea- especially after all the rumours of his desire to sign with them in the offseason.

This is similar to the Gaudreau, and Tkachuk rumors. Everyone speculated Gaudreau was going to PHI. Tkachuk to STL. All for the same reasons. I actually think Hanifin would end up signing long term in FLA or CHI. I have no idea where he goes as a rental.
Boston's #1 target in the offseason is going to be a center(or two). Then after they figure it out they will use their cap space to get a 2nd pairing D or to re-sign Grzelcyk.

I think there's a chance they get those centers (or at least one) before the deadline, but I agree- I could see Tkachuk luring his buddy to Florida. It's been said that Chucky has already been in his ear about life down there.

Dube is one of our better forwards. Not sure we want him playing 9 min a game.

That's the downside of having 10 legit top-9 forwards.
The upside is that when one of the other 9 inevitably gets injured or goes cold, you still have a solid top 9.
This is a much nicer problem than having a hole on the second line and plugging it with Lucic.
