Well, that was not the result I wanted, but it's also not wholly unexpected after the lineup disparity.
I'd really, really like to have the Oilers stop eating the Flames lunch, though. The Flames just look lost and disinterested and never seem to show up to play them.

Unfortunately they’re also better than us November-May/June. But not late June

Well, I’m not sure to whom your ‘us’ refers
Should it be the Flames, no, they are not. On a rare occasion they have accumulated more points than anyone even marginally respectable would appreciate, by some cheap, unsavoury, sleazy, or despicable means.
They are no good.

Zary- Eye test for me matches what has been posted. Thought he looked decent. Probably best forward for the flames.
Petterson- I thought he was real solid to me. Don’t know what his chances are, but looked very good to me. Can see he has the skill, good skater, battles hard, wants that puck. If they want to replace Pelletier why not this guy? Put up decent stats in the AHL. To me he’s a better fit then Hunt to replace Pelletiers spot. Haven’t seen any of the other games so maybe he’s been crap, but wouldn’t mind seeing this guys skill over a guy like Hunt. No one seems to mention him at all so maybe he’s not in the conversation, but I liked him tonight for sure.
Honzek- So disappointed I didn’t really get to see him. He served the first penalty and that’s the only time I noticed him. Sounds like he got injured. Was one of the guys I really wanted to watch.
Vladar- Defence was a mess against the NHL oilers, but still just not the biggest fan of his. He did make some nice saves in the second when the flames were getting shelled so maybe I’m being a bit tough on him. I’m definitely not as high on him as some.
First time being at a game in a few years as I’ve kinda avoided going. Living here is bad enough, but man I hate that team and it’s fans. It’s not when it’s how many are they going to win. Hope this team falls flat and just sucks, but that might be a long shot. Could be a long season for us flames fans in Edmonton.

Haar, hear. Sucks being a flames fan in Oil country right now. 2-3 more years and it will be back to the bottom feeders for them!

His comments about Zary were interesting though. Huska liked what he saw from Zary and said he kept it simple, which is what he need to do. He said that Zary is not a 4th line player in the long run, but it might have to be his role initially just to get his foot in the door (paraphrasing). That makes me think that Zary might be getting some real consideration here.

He played 18 minutes, about 4 minutes less than his usual 22 minutes.
Draisaitl played 15 minutes.

I want Zary to start as the 4th line centre, although his potential is much higher in the lineup. The Flames could easily put Zary on a line where he could succeed. In the example below, Zary plays between a solid veteran in Coleman and a speedy and hard-working player in Duehr. Also, Coleman and Duehr are skilled.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Sharangovich
Ruzicka - Kadri - Dube
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coronato
Coleman - Zary - Duehr

How many at mid-game? They cut him way down after it became a blowout.

Hunt isn’t the answer, I see no reason to give him a spot over Zary honestly.
I can see why the guy played for 4 different NHL teams last year… his numbers in the AHL are okay but doesn’t translate to the big show.
He looked completely lost last night and always a step behind.
I’m sad Pelletier got hurt, not only because he was going to make it but because now we’ll have Hunt or Schwindt in the lineup over someone else who better deserves it.
I think Zary did everything he could have, hope he gets a fair look.

If the idea behind re-signing Lindholm is to double down on this team because we already have expensive long term contracts on the book (which, we don’t - we only have two), then it’d sure be neat if Lindholm and Huberdeau showed some signs of being able to play together effectively.
There’s been no visible chemistry on the ice between the two though. That ought to be weighing into the decision making process. There shouldn’t be any panic to get Lindholm extended.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Friedman dropping the "closer to $9M" last night in 32 Thoughts and Seravalli suggesting a "greater than 50% chance" Lindholm signs before the season opens tells me all I need to know about whats happening.
All we need to know now is the exact dollars and term.

I agree with everything you said above, the only thing I’d like to add is that with Pelletier out, the flames will need 13 forwards still. I can honestly see hunt sticking as the 13th and Zary getting the 4th line centre role to start, at least that’s how it should be based on merit in my eyes. Either Hunt, or maybe Klapka or schwindt, for the 13th but Hunt makes the most sense if we want other prospects getting playing time

Double edged sword. Last year tells you to wait but if they got rolling in the first 1/4 of the season then Lindholm's leverage really increases.
