No idea what Pastrnak was doing on that play, but yikes.
Still a hell of a shot though.

From what I saw he wasn't very noticeable 5 on 5. But anything with 4 players on the ice or less and his skill shines through a lot more. He's got the skills to be very helpful on the PP, but no idea what the Caps are going to do with him. Wouldn't be surprised if he makes the team to start the season and they see how things go from there.

On the ice for two PP goals, including contributing to one of them, and scored the OT winner.
It appears that Caps fans are already penciling Phillips into their opening day roster.
Edit: Milano also had a nice goal tonight

For the "Phillips never made anything of his opportunities in Calgary" crowd ...
Phillips has played more this preseason than in his last three preseasons with the Flames combined, and on a line with a legit NHL centre in Strome.
This is the kind of opportunity people were waiting for him to get in Calgary at any point in time. It never even happened after they were eliminated from playoff contention. Playing the AHL's best young goal-scorer on a line with career AHLers in a fourth-line role in a couple token mismatched road games? That's not actually what a real opportunity looks like. This is an opportunity, and it would've been so easy for the Flames to give it to him at any point instead of playing the Ritchies or Lucic. That's why people are still annoyed by this.

This is all Sutter's fault. He said many times last year that he believed that rookies had to earn their way in the AHL and then learn from playing with the vets like Lucics, Ritchies, Lewis's in the NHL about how to be a pro. He didn't believe in giving them opportunities to shine. It was the same with Pelletier, he didn't want to play Pelletier at all until the team staff started asking why Sutter kept d****** around Pelletier's parents about if he would play his first game or not. Sutter finally relented and then shot back with the "who's that?" press conference because he was pissed off someone forced his hand.

The coach the Flames should have had as head or assistant Coach (Mitch Love) is with the caps this year so probably not. He coached Phillips to the best year last year for himself and the Wranglers.

Love to see it. Phillips is made for the open space. Pastrnak was pretty lazy on that defensive effort though, but wicked shot by the kid.

It was a nice shot, but let’s be real. There was no defender on the play, Pastrnak made no effort at all.

Isn’t Pastrnak supposed to be good at defense?

I’m sure he cares just a wee bit getting dipsy doodled in front of thousands of fans and helping lose the game.

I am not worried about losing Philips. Wish him success but he is not an NHL player.
