Bow/Sarcee isn't that bad for westbound through traffic even at peak PM hour. The only movements that are fata'd are the EB-NB turn and NB through traffic.

Tuesday to Thursday it can be 3-4 lights to get through westbound.

But if you're in that right-hand lane and going northbound on Sarcee you usually flow right through.

Oh, personally haven't seen that. Well there's no real help coming for this, though eventually N-S traffic will get less green time which will help.

22x has been so bad since they changed the road alignment around... might drive my car off the new-old bridge if it takes another year.

I like this part regarding the Bow to Highway 8 final section:
Quote:
Completion of that final leg of the Calgary West Ring Road in 2024 will “be a game-changer for Calgary,” said Alberta Transportation spokesman Jesse Furber.
That’s expected to be finished next summer, said Furber.
“Or hopefully sooner … there haven’t been any delays,” he said.

They have been pretty consistent at sending the email newsletter out at around 14:00 on Fridays. I expect that will be similar today, and we'll probably hear October 1st, since they're already putting it on the digital board.
Checks calendar for an excuse to use it on Sunday/Monday, but might have to make one up! Of course I have something tonight and tomorrow that would provide a good excuse, if it were open.

And you think it's bad now. Wait until they seriously increase the density of the communities on either side of Bow, coming up from downtown, before hitting Sarcee.

Wouldn't that traffic filter off Bow into the neighbourhoods, before reaching / affecting the Sarcee intersection?
I think the bigger problem will be when development jumps the ring road to the west of 101st and all those residents have to take Bow...

There's some other options west of 101 - 17th to upper and lower Springbank Roads. Plus, there's a bunch of unstarted developments already approved west on Hwy 8, and the reason IMO is that there's no money to do it cost-effectively. Also the existing landowners - mostly acreages - fight hard against anything with more density. Remember this is all Rockyview County and not Calgary.
Almost 1/4 of the land just west is also taken up by cemetary/golf course land.

Mostly acreages out there so unlikely to get too much more than a few pockets. Probably see more closer to the TCH - I think there's plans for something west of Crestmont (or maybe it was Valley Ridge, but probably both eventually)

Forget Rockyview and Westgate... There's already tons of high density development underway in West Springs and Springbank Hill-Aspen. The West District development (below) alone is 3389 residents and 3543 jobs (retail/office units), at 85th Street and Old Banff. The Springbank Hill ASP has something like 8000 new residents planned, mostly near 85th & 17 Ave..
There is this, though: https://globalnews.ca/news/9987330/p...rail-overpass/

I live in west springs and just drove the new section from bow trail down to the farmers market by COP. took about half the time it takes to go down bow to Sarcee so great for me. I don't see that it will be that much faster for anyone not on the hill than just continuing to use Sarcee though.

yeah also just took it (heading from West Springs to University district) and I think it was faster, or at least more novel. will have to try it other than 230 on a Sunday to make much of a true assessment but nice to have options

I just did West Springs to the Oval. If Ring Road was faster, I'll try that next time.

Just took it myself between the hill and the NW.
That was extremely satisfying. I love novel experiences like that. Felt like I teleported between two areas that are usually much more roundabout to traverse between.
I like where it merges at the bridge too. Its further up than i thought which makes for fairly direct access. You can really forego the mess of vehicles merging north from the transcanada.
I can get used to this.
