What we know for sure, and I don’t think it matters much at this point but his season is done at any level. Basically start whatever mental and physical rehab that’s needed, work on likely losing weight and improving overall fitness and see what he’s got in the spring. Next spring will be his last shot to be a pro player.

Yeah, we're well past the "I think they're screwing me out of Super 2 status" here. He won't be pitching in the bigs unless he proves he can pitch again in the minors. And he can't do that until he starts pitching. At this point realistically that's next year.
The whole thing is terrible, a high end cost controlled starter is a terrible thing to lose for a baseball team...

At first I thought the Manoah situation was really bad luck for the Blue Jays, and I felt sympathy for the front office. Not many teams have to deal with losing their #1 ace, a franchise cornerstone, in his second season.
But with all that has happened, it appears the Jays never had a solid training and development plan implemented, or a support system in place for him. They hyped him up and then when he stumbled no one had a clue what to do.
Typical Toronto sports team thing to do I guess.

I don't think this is on the organization TBH.
Manoah would need to want to work with the Jays on a solid training and development plan, and Manoah didn't think there was an issue (and there were no signs of issues last year) so tough to do so.
At this point now it's clear that his ego and his agent aren't allowing him to see that he needs to put in the work to get back to the level he was at the prior two seasons, and that's tough for the org because he doesn't seem to want to work on a training and development plan.
The player needs to give himself an ego check and get back to work.

Yeah i have a hard time faulting the Jays too, unless something was wrong with his off-season plan. But as it stands, he just hasn't been good enough and this is a team that is in a win now mode.
What does he want them to do?
Seems selfish and immature.

They named him opening day starter, Schneider hyped up the announcement.
They gave him rope when he continuously struggled.
They pulled him back up from his demotion too soon, to give him a cushy Tigers start.
And still he pouts.
After his playoff performance last year, probably teams best interest he stays away.
Model your off season off of Kikuchi please. Not Antonio Brown.

This situation just feels like it needs an offseason to fix. That's my take on him not going down and pitching in the minors - there is really no benefit this year so what's the point. Stop focusing on the pitching as that is in tatters and look to other areas to improve like strength, fitness, stamina, etc. then come back to actual pitching in several months.

The Manoah situation is simply him being a brat and not checking his ego. It's not on the Jays. I think most fans would fault management for bringing him back so quickly when it was clear it wasn't a quick fix to start off. I don't think shutting it down is a bad thing though. If he needs to clear his head and rid himself off this season, I don't care. He wasn't going to solve his problems this late in the season anyway, so better he take a few weeks off then start practicing again.
What frustrates me about this team is the apparent culture being off. If it was a great team atmosphere I think you'd see guys enjoying their successes more. It seems almost too subdued at times. This off-season will be a tough one as I doubt they'll sign Chapman and Kiermaier may walk himself. It's going to be an uphill battle for management to make effective trades given their lack of assets, so I'm guessing it'll be opening the checkbook for a lot of money in free agency signings. I do hope they sign Kiermaier back. I just don't see how they fix it though.

Not saying you were saying it last season, but it's funny because last season, it was all about how the players are having too much fun celebrating and not being serious enough, but now this year, it's at the other end.

It's almost the opposite of last year when there was too much fun. Management has been decent at finding bargain players so perhaps they'll pull a few rabbits out of their hat but I do agree, as far as their window goes it's probably a little bit more closed next season.

Oh, I'll put up my hand and say I was one of them saying last season to get rid of the stupid HR jacket. On top of that celebrating while getting blown out during a game, was dumb. To swing the pendulum the opposite end though, probably was too much too quick and not so subtly was telling Vlad to grow up - especially when they got rid of his two friends. I really don't think I'm reading into this situation too much but certain changes have to be gradual rather than extreme and this looks a bit more extreme.

Definitely wasn't trying to point at you or anything. Just thought it was interesting how, as you said, the pendulum has swung to the opposite side for some. This year's team is weird - they're in a wild card spot despite not putting together any streaks, but I don't think any of the fans are that happy.

Of course Scherzer is just going to eat this lineup alive.

Strikeout on a ball that hits your kneecap.
That hurts. More ways than one.

Ryu has thrown one bad pitch and it got crushed. I wish the Jays had someone on their roster that could do that.

Corey Seager has 2 hits on balls with an XBA of .250 and .050. Incredible luck.
Jays are likely done for tonight unless they can somehow chase Scherzer. Shouldn't be surprised that this year's Jays would choke when it mattered.

Biggest series of the year and it’s gone probably how we should have expected.
The enthusiasm in this thread is justified.
What we can expect if we do make a wildcard series.
