Cynical, likely (hopefully) untrue feeling. Living along mcleod I saw a firetruck just absolutely busting through every light in superspeed, horns going crazy, and after witnessing so many overdoses my first thought was "wow, they're clearly not racing to save an addicts life".

I know that's a horrible thought and I'm sure it's 100% not true.

You never really guess who it’ll be, either. I’ve received some concerning enough or outright insane stuff on here that I wouldn’t go giving those people any more information than I have to, and aside from one regular poster who I won’t bother naming, it’s all been from accounts I barely know or people making up new ones just for that purpose.

There’s definitely a few psychos lurking around, so if you’ve already said where you work, you’d have to tread lighter than most.
Not sure if you're referring to me, but if you are that seems like making a mountain out of a mole hill (at least from my perspective).

And if you're referring to the "would get smacked" comment which I get the sense you are, that's also dramaticizing it quite a bit. To reiterate, since apparently we need to, I essentially said that if someone intruded on conversations of others and spoke to them the way you tend to post on here, then they'd probably get smacked. Because a lot of people would frown upon and take exception to those kinds of comments. It's a good thing most people don't speak how they post on anonymous forums though.

That's not the same as saying "I'm gonna smack you!" nor was it intended as such. For some reason you spun it that way, maybe you misinterpreted, but I felt it was pretty clear and straightforward and no one else batted an eye. If that concerned you, I'm sorry. But I think it was evident I was speaking hypothetically because I think the conversation went into forums vs real life, and I was just being honest. I was chuckling to myself just imagining someone bringing your snark to a real life conversation and how poorly it would translate knowing how quick people can be to take offence. If someone else posted the way you have and ragged on people the way you sometimes do, I'd have said the same of them.

I can't speak with certainty of others on the board but you have nothing to be concerned about as it pertains to me. If you're anything like you are on here I probably just wouldn't care to interact with you. I'd go about my day and wouldnt give that person who exhibits that level of audacity the time of day. I'd go on focusing on people who are much more tolerable. And that would be most people. No offence.

Sir, this is the crackhead thread. If you've been reading this thread you'll know that anything can be around the next corner.

It's also weird when a poster keeps referencing you indirectly every so often because they harbour feelings over something you said from weeks or months ago but can't just talk to you directly about it. Might as well address it so we can move on.

Was watching a report on the situation in Oregon since they legalized small personal quantities of drugs. Think it was CBC? The reporter was on a ride-along, and they “raced” to an overdose to administer naxolone. Cop got there and said it was the third day in a row they had to revive the same person. I can’t imagine maintaining the same level of urgency every time if that was my job. At some point you have to start thinking fk this, I could be rushing to actually help a situation instead of putting drops in this idiots nose again.

You have to think with the advances in AI, someone has the ability to have a program scrub though all a user’s posts and put together enough relevant details to take a guess at who we really are. Probably not a good idea to post things online assuming your anonymous.

I wasn’t. You pose zero threat to me. And you don’t need to say you’d choose anyone else to hang out with, that should be obvious. The way our vibes mesh don’t scream “going for ice cream!” That option would never be on the table for you.

But it’s funny knowing there are probably half a dozen guys thinking “Is that about me??” because they lobbed some weird generic insult or threat my way. I know what I dish out and I’m just fine receiving the same or a little more in return. No fuss for most people. The threshold for crazy is a lot higher.

Exactly. My friends are my friends because they like who I am and I like who they are. I’m not going to be someone else for anyone, and I’m certainly not going to change or put in effort to mask it for an internet forum. This is all casual and fun (well, I think it is, some people obviously don’t lol).

Lots of stuff that has a specific purpose is 'fun' but you are not supposed to use it that way. Period. Bear bangers are to be used when you see a bear and want to drive it from you. In that case, the use is justified. Setting it off at random, possibly scaring a bear in hearing range, your stated purpose for doing it, is reckless and could cause the bear to confront other hikers out there. That is a serious dick move. The guy coming off the path should have punched you in the mouth tbh. We live in a society and have to play nice with each other or it all goes to hell. Finally, you owe WhiteTiger an apology. Your comments about him, making fun of the essential work that he does to make a pissy selfish point was totally offside. I love you as a poster and get a lot of kicks out of your antics and appreciate you share them but sometimes I disagree with your take. There it is.
To be clear, I was - in no way whatsoever - making fun of his work. My brain...for all its flaws...doesn't operate like that. There's dignity and necessity in virtually every job out there and I have particular gratitude and respect for jobs people have that help us all.

WhiteTiger, if you interpreted my remarks as disparaging your job and the work you do I most definitely and wholeheartedly apologize. That was not my intent, I'm sorry, buddy.

What did I mean then? WT often posts things viewed through a lens that - imo - is a pro-authoritarian one. I've seen him carte blanche defend police helicopters buzzing over our heads and cite statistics that the helos are responsible for x amount of arrests. Fair, but I don't like that because I don't think the trade off of having the state police us from the air and look at me in my backyard is worth it to catch a kid breaking the window of a bus shelter. Quantity of arrests is a bad metric for justifying the disruptive use of helicopters by police in our city.

He said I'm misusing emergency resources. That's ridiculous. These are not emergency resources (to me that implies public resources since I'm allowed to use my legal and personal resources however I please...what I do is legal). It's a fricken bear banger. I guarantee you 9/10 people present when I blast them off love it. It's like whenever I shoot off fireworks...there's always that 1/10 who will get scared 'the cops will come' - I even have a friend who walked 100 meters away last February when I and 15 of my friends were shooting them off over the lake in Invermere because she thought we'd get in trouble.

I don't believe there is trouble from authorities peaking around all the bushes ready to bust me. I think calling a bear banger a 'misuse of emergency resources' is a gross exaggeration and mischaracterisation of what I do and what bear bangers - bought at Canadian Tire - are.

So if there is a pattern of wt posting pro-authority at the expense of fun, then I'm going to roll my eyes. I believe there is that pattern. Is he a bad guy? No way...I just think he's very biased toward not bending any rules (this one isn't even a rule, btw, you're literally permitted to do this) and he's not afraid to vocally call out behavior with an authoritative tone channeling authority I don't believe he has.

I also don't think there are any news outlets waiting to break a story about a 911 call centre agent ignoring a post about bear bangers in the mountains. He didn't need to come in and lecture me on emergency resources. It was Sliver's resource. It was used as intended...to scare away bears on a hike.

And the guy should have punched me in the mouth? Lol, what? Newsflash, there are bears in the mountains. Probably one on every face of every mountain in Canmore. I did a two hour ride yesterday over two mountain faces and it didn't even cross my mind once that there weren't bears around me...because there are. If dude surmised there was a bear on the mountain because of the banger, well, I'm glad I could make him aware if he's uncomfortable hiking around bears. Just a reality of the mountains unless he wants to support my dream of a cull.

A fricken helicopter (back to helicopters, apparently) are way louder and are more disruptive to nature than one bear banger. And they fly around Canmore all the time. They must do site seeing tours or something because they fly low, too.

So anyway, was I coming at wt? Yes. Was it in response to his lecture? Yes. Was I making fun of his job? Not at all (intentionally, that is...I remain sincere in my apology for both how it came out and how it was interpreted - I accept full responsibility). Do I think he's a company man who - at least publicly on the forum - posts and discusses things through a pro-authority lens...yeah, I mean I do because he seems to even admit he does. I'm basically saying, you know how you post from that one perspective? I don't like it.

So feel free to defend him (very fair) and vehemently disagree with my post, opinion, delivery, actions, etc.; however, please just realize I wasn't degrading his work.

I dunno. So the users still get fines, unless they accept treatment, but how does that even work when Oregon ranks dead last in access to treatment? It’s like they set this up to fail.

However, if there were safe consumptions sites, maybe the cops or EMS wouldn’t have to make this part of their routine. Seems like there are pretty reasonable solutions to this, provided you’re not set in puritanical thinking.

I think they said 1% of users call the help number on the ticket rather than “pay the fine”. re: safe injection sites, isn’t the % that get talked into treatment extremely low as well? They just listen as long as it takes to get their hit, then probably say fk this, I’ll take my chances with street drugs rather than listen to another lecture. So what have you accomplished? Delayed the inevitable for 99% of users?

I guarantee you're estimate is way off here (for whatever our self-proclaimed guarantees are worth on the internet).

I'd suspect it's closer to 1/10 who 'love it'.

Another 4/10 are probably some shade of neutral to it.

The remaining 5/10 are rolling their eyes at what an entitled bozo you are in that moment.

I won't put a figure on it, but I imagine your antics have been upsetting to dozens of people with auditory sensitivity issues over the years. So you should feel really proud about that.

To put it in terms you might understand, you're at least as bad as bozos who let their poorly trained dogs roam free because "everyone loves dogs" and "don't worry, their super friendly"!

It’s annoying as hell if you’re doing that in a place where people are trying to hike and have some peace and quiet.

Back to the original thread, saw some poor barefoot dude who looked like Jesus on the shoulder of Deerfoot southbound today just after 32nd. Thankfully, I saw a cop pull over as I was headed northbound to check on him.
