We don't know what is going on behind the curtains, so I'm not going to pass judgement on Peters. I don't doubt Aliu's story about the radio incident (he was fired from his dream job for it) but I doubt that Peters is some raging racist who goes to klan rallies during his spare time who doesn't deserve to coach ever again.

I'm not diminishing Aliu's experience with this coach. Racism has no place in any part of society. But Aliu is saying that in ADDITION to the racist incident, Peters went out of his way to make sure Aliu didn't ever play for an NHL team. I doubt Peters has that kind of pull around the league - and even if he did, if Aliu was good enough, he would have found work. He wasn't.
|
OK, but you kind of are by simply calling him not good enough and suggesting the claim was that Peters had that sway around the league. That's not the claim. His claim is that Peters went out of his way to hurt his reputation in Chicago and that the people involved in the organization at the time went on to GM (and be the key decision-makers) in multiple other organizations across the league. Hockey is a tight-knight community. When you get a bad reputation with 5 guys and they go on to 5 different teams and all the people involved in those teams, that can spread pretty easily.
Was he not good enough because he never had it? Or because he struggled to overcome the type of abuse he endured?
Do you think Kyle Beach just wasn't good enough?

And yet people continue to say that Peters deserves a second chance. With zero evidence that he has done a single thing to earn it.
I could not care less whether Aliu has inflated beliefs about his own hockey ability. That is simply not the issue here.

Hopefully one day you'll learn where the line is. Not confident in it, but hopefully you do.

I'd say far from dysfunctional.

You could be right but, that's not really a ringing endorsement.

My face is a bum!

If you're right on the bubble, and people perceive you have a bad attitude, I don't think it's a reach to say someone smearing your name around the league could lead to the demise of your career.

On Wednesday, a teary-eyed Peters.
addressed the news conference in
Lethbridge, starting with:
“To Akim, I apologize. I did not
recognize the impact of my words. I
was uneducated in my use of
inappropriate language.
No, dumbass, you weren't uneducated. You're simply a racist. How could you think that anyone believes you didn't know the impact of calling a person of colour the n word. Apologizing into a microphone because you had to is not apologizing. And, nice tears.

I don’t think he called Aliu that though did he? He was calling rap music ****** noise.
Talked to one player and one prospect and his parent today, all excited Peters is the coach.

Ohhhh, ok. He didn't call a person the n-word, he called rappers the n-word. Got it.
When he said "Hey Akim, I'm sick of you playing that n----r s--t. I'm sick of hearing this n----rs f--king other n----rs in the ass stuff." he wasn't referring to any people as the n-word, right?
He was just calling something else the n-word. What was he calling the n-word again, can you explain it?

Semantics. He said it directly to Aliu. Talking directly to him repeatedly using that word isn't being uneducated.

If that’s what was said, it sounds like he was mostly quoting the lyrics. Lyrics which Peters himself found offensive. He should’ve just smashed the ghetto blaster.

I would say facts are different than semantics but that is just me. The post was incorrect.

Oh, Peters also found it offensive and was just quoting lyrics!
That's why he spent 4 years reflecting on his actions, completed a 12-month program geared towards teaching people why these things are offensive and how to create a culture of diversity and respect, and why he's going to continue participating in anti-racism training... not because he was being racist, but because he was actually the offended one and it's Akim's fault for offending him.
We just won't mention the physical abuse and bullying he was accused of beyond that incident.

Ok. I misread. He didn't call him the word. He just repeatedly used the word to describe people like him when speaking to him. Much better. I guess he shouldn't have been forced to quit and get banished to Siberia.
Doesn't change the fact that Peter's is a racist that only half-assed an apology with crocodile tears in front of his new bosses to get a job.

Just so we are clear, you aren't going to pass judgement on Peters but you are on Aliu.

Racism aside would be nice if more up and coming coaches were given a shot instead of recycling through the old boys club.
