That's crazy. So here you have people setting them as adrenaline junkies. And all this does is help fuel the narrative that global warming is 110% to blame.

This article stands out to me as well.

Maybe we as humans need to do less forest burny activities.

The heating of the climate is undeniable. I am just not sold on the fact climate change is the primary cause. Anecdotal I know, but trails I used to hike 20 years ago that you'd be lucky to see one person over an entire day, you'll see 20 now. Crown land areas I used to camp and not be within 500 meters of someone else, look like music festivals some weekends.

Places you used to go, where we found out about them from a friend of an uncles friends buddy's neighbour... all those areas are now on All-Trails and all these other hiking apps, and people that don't respect the forest, don't know proper campsite management, don't realize you don't drive your ATV through knee high super dry grass... they are a huge cause of all this as well. The utter stupidity I have seen out near Waiprous.... they need a $1000/yr crown land usage/camping fee to flush some of these trashy people out.

The Macdonald–Laurier Institute (MLI) is a conservative, libertarian think tank located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, affiliated with the American libertarian Atlas Network.

Quote:
The Atlas Network partnered with an Ottawa-based thinktank – the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) – which enlisted pro-industry Indigenous representatives in its campaign to provide “a shield against opponents”.

Atlas, which has deep ties to conservative politicians and oil and gas producers, claimed success in reports in 2018 and 2020, arguing its partner was able to discourage the Canadian government from supporting a United Nations declaration that would ensure greater involvement by Indigenous communities.

The Atlas Network calls itself a “worldwide freedom movement” and has nearly 500 partners, including thinktanks like the Manhattan Institute. Other powerful partners include the Cato Institute, a thinktank co-founded by Charles Koch in 1977, as well as the Heritage Foundation, which hosted a keynote speech by Donald Trump in April. Their influence on US politics includes leading campaigns to make Americans doubt if human-caused climate change is real.

You don't think environmentalists selfish enough to glue themselves to roads potentially costing innocent people jobs, and risking the lives of anyone needing or currently riding in an ambulance wouldn't burn down a few forests as collateral damage to advance their cause?

I don't disagree that it is less than likely. But I also think it is obtuse to outright dismiss the possibility.
Can I point out just how thoughtless this idea is? Let's pretend some "environmentalist" set 100 fires in just BC to advance their agenda and somehow didn't get caught, and no one saw anything......

That's still way less than 10% of all of the fires this year, and most of the largest ones already have a known cause. There's been over 1500 fires this year in BC. There were over 1700 last year but they just didn't get as big because the forests weren't just dried husks of kindling. The forests are incredibly dry right now

Setting aside the insane "environmentalists are conspiring to engage in false flags to start forest fires," the foundation of your point is completely wrong. There aren't more fires than in the past; it's just the opposite. Look at this chart:

You can clearly see that the number of fires per year is declining. At the same time, the area burned is generally getting higher outside of the extreme years. The latter is what warmer, drier weather can exacerbate, regardless of what's causing the fires.

1989. Flames win the cup, we have the highest amount of fires and the largest area burned. Coincidence or conspiracy?

The obvious answer is that environmentalists have spent years using government-designed directed energy weapons to dry out fire-prone areas, increasingly the likelihood of more damaging fires as part of a false-flag operation spanning decades with the purpose of convincing us all that climate change is real.

Unless you got a graph to disprove that, sucker.

This line of thinking could be used to lend credence to literally any conspiracy theory ever thought up, from the earth is flat to the 2020 US election was stolen from DJT.

Without evidence, all we have is suspicion. To me, suspicion devoid of evidence is almost always worthless and not worth spending time/energy on.

I mean, sure, perhaps we could "not dismiss the possibility" that some fires were deliberately lit to make the fire season seem worse than it otherwise would be, in hopes that it would cause governments around the world to do more to combat climate change.

But then we should also "not dismiss the possibility" that these baseless, evidence-free suspicions of arson committed by environmentalists, are being spread by climate change deniers in an effort to create more doubt about the effects of climate change, and thereby slow down efforts by governments around the world to combat climate change.

At the end of the day, I ask myself, which of these conspiracy theories is more likely to be true?

Pile of steaming #### platform, and it's too bad that that's leaking into Instagram these days.

But yeah, just because there's a curious connection between two events or places doesn't mean it's anything more than just that, and if you're fooled into believing there's actually a chance of it then you probably need more channels that this unfounded information from the most unreliable of places needs to pass through in order for you to accept it as gospel.

Time to get off the blue pill and come back to reality, where there isn't a grand plot behind every unfortunate event you read about.

We occupy almost every piece of land on a planet that is highly geologically active with daily extreme weather events, somewhere someone is bound to run into tragedy at the hands of these forces.

Reality is actually pretty boring, and a lot of times there isn't a culprit behind a tragic event, as much as we may desperately try to manufacture one to have someone to blame. Reality has the spice level of ketchup.

I am pretty sure that I have read about someone lighting like 4 fires (not too far apart) to try and further their environmental cause. I can’t find it on a quick google search and am too lazy to keep looking. So let’s just say that it’s true. It is such a small number compared to the total number of fires that it almost doesn’t count. Is there maybe a few more fires started intentionally with the same goal in mind? Probably. But again, totalling all those still keeps the number at almost zero.
Way more fires started by accident than on purpose, that’s for sure.
