Should be no catch he doesn’t have possession until his foot is out of bounds, but it’s Saskatchewan so doubtful the league makes the right call.

Not that we needed any more proof but this league is an embarrassment.

Rourke will be the 3rd QB on the Jags.

Wonder if he stays up or comes back to the CFL and goes for it again next year.

Won’t Rourke earn much more than as a CFL starter?

Not really according to this article from 3DownNation:

The 24-year-old received a $5,000 signing bonus along with $216,000 in guaranteed base salary to total $221,000 USD in monetary assurances. At a minimum, it would seem to indicate that the six-foot-two, 209-pound passer could be on the Jags’ practice squad for one season. Change can happen fast in the NFL and there are a number of scenarios that have the possibility of playing out.

Jacksonville selected generational talent Trevor Lawrence with the first-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and he’s expected to be entrenched as the team’s starter long-term. Veteran backup C.J. Beathard re-signed for two years, getting $2 million in guaranteed money with a maximum value of $4.5 million. Rourke was given “reassurance” from the Jaguars that he would be able to compete to back up Lawrence.

It was announced that Beathard is the backup to Lawrence coming out of training camp.

He won't be back in the CFL for a few years at the least. He's performed well in preseason and is a cheap 3rd QB.

Isn't the big thing that even if you make less on a per year basis the NFL pension makes it worth it long term? I am not sure if this has changed recently but I remember when DD went down there that was the reason he stayed as 3rd stringer.

Also, if you back your talent and can get to the back-up you see that a mediocre back-up like Bethard is getting 2 million which makes it easily a much better choice to be in the NFL.

His base salary alone is $750k US so there's no way the CFL could match that on an annual basis. Doug Pederson is a really good QB coach so it was a pretty wise move for Rourke to sign on with Jacksonville as even if he only sticks around for a year he will learn a lot. Beathard isn't exactly a high caliber backup so if Lawrence was to go down for a while there's a very good chance Rourke sees some action.

It's sad when you think Bo Levi Mitchell might have had a chance to make an NFL roster, but he insisted on being a starter so he came back to Canada after 2018 and it hasn't worked out.

Rourke is still relatively young; he's also only a few injuries away from getting a chance to prove himself and sign a much bigger contract compared to what he'd get in the CFL. Even if it doesn't pan out (right away or at all), the CFL will always be backup option for him.

Yeah lots of QB3’s end up playing. No brainer for him to stick around.

True about Bo, but I think it was already too late for him at that point, the wheels came off fast. Maybe 2015 it would've been better. Love that dude but I don't think he would've made it beyond primary backup down there.

The CFL should really focus on fixing it's broken stats pages. It's pretty bad when you have to go to tsn.ca to view stats after a game because the links are broken on the CFL stats page.
