Hopefully this release date sticks. I'd like to start making the work I did on it public rather than with a password protected page. I didn't see anything I worked on in this trailer though.

Season 2 was expected to release in the mid to late October time period so I wouldn't consider this jumping or unexpected by any means.

You don't normally see other live games announcing big quality of life features and fundamental fixes coming in a new season after just barely starting into their first (or any) season.

It's what, barely a 1/3 of the way into season 1?

Just picked up the new Madden 24, first time I've bought it in 3 years...and dare I say they actually made some decent improvements? I think the key is to not get it annually to actually notice these things.

It's because there's nothing there aside from a couple of gems. No new bosses or encounters, no interesting gear, no meaningful balance updates. I've gotten bored quicker with D4 than any other RPG game I've played, it feels exactly the same half-baked that Diablo 3 was at launch but without the itemization that at least kept the chase interesting. But speaking of D3, I decided to give it another shot since it's last season is coming up, and wow it's a vastly different game than the last time I tried it. The current season with the Altar of Rites has very cool mechanics that are very rewarding, you get an extremely powerful class gear set for working your way through season objectives, it's super easy to swap between different builds, and there's so many quality of life changes compared to D4. I'd advise anyone that's bored with D4 but still has that ARPG itch to give D3 another shot, in it's current form it's easily the best Diablo game in the franchise. Would have been nice if Blizzard actually took the lessons learned from 3 and applied it to 4, guess I'll just have to shelve that one for a few years as well and hope they eventually complete it

The PSP (Portal) is back!

Will be neat to mess around with but too bad it's not a full console. Up for playing turn based strat's on this.

Just get one of these for half the price. I have it and it works great, and will use the exact same streaming technology with a nicer screen (your phone):

The preview I watched this morning was from a guy who streams to his phone with a backbone daily and said the dedicated unit was a better experience as he experienced fewer hiccups. Just one guy though.

I think I've tried streaming 3ish times and every time (even with crazy internet) there's enough of a lag that I can't believe people do it. I suppose it requires a specific set of circumstances that I don't have.

So to get this right it offers:
- Haptic feedback
- 1080p 60 FPS LCD screen. Why not make it OLED?
- Existing wireless headphones that utilize Bluetooth can't be used. You need either a wired headset or the new earbuds/headphones in the video.
- Only able to play games that are installed on the PS5, so any PS+ games that you stream on the console can't be streamed to the portal.

Very underwhelmed.

Bioware was one of my favorite developers until EA purchased them.

Good to see that Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting a release date on xbox sometime this year rather than being stupidly blocked into 2024.

Crazy it took Larian Studios needing to get a meeting in-person to ask for an exemption from their parity requirement to be allowed to release on xbox.

Got to wonder how many smaller games and studios just get locked out or held back in the same scenario due to their xbox s console rules.

https://kotaku.com/baldurs-gate-3-xb...rpg-1850770513

Baldur’s Gate 3, which launched for PC this month and is coming to PlayStation 5 on September 6, has endured a complicated saga in coming to Xbox Series X/S. This was largely attributed to difficulty in making split-screen co-op performant in the Series S version, but new info suggests developer Larian Studios is opting to cut that feature out of the game on Microsoft’s weaker console so it can finally bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to both Xbox platforms before the end of the year.

However, if you look at Microsoft’s published rules on the matter, “mode” parity between Xbox Series X and S games seems to be a requirement for a game to appear on Xbox. The rule in question says developers must “ensure that identical game modes are offered across console types within the generation.”

It’s unclear whether or not Microsoft is lifting the rule entirely or is making an exception for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Well if you're a developer and Microsoft says you have to have feature parity with the X/S, it's smarter to just design around the weaker hardware. And if you're already doing that, then it just makes sense to make a PS4 version as well so you're not missing out on a potential 100+ million user base. That would explain why we haven't seen any truly impressive next-gen games

I think they have more issues than just a mistake of managing expectations but maybe something to come back to in a year or three

https://www.gamesradar.com/diablo-4-...-right-things/

Diablo 4 boss addresses disastrous Season 1 launch: "we felt like we were doing the right things"

GamesRadar+ has spoken to Rod Fergusson, Diablo general manager, at Gamescom 2023. When asked about the Diablo 4 player base's overwhelmingly negative reaction to its debut season, Fergusson states that "one of the things we recognised early on was that we had made some sort of mistake in managing expectations. It was hard because we felt like what we were doing for the game were the right things to do."

Fergusson comments come hot on the heels of Blizzard unveiling Diablo 4 Season 2 yesterday at the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, complete with an October 17 release date. Fergusson and company will certainly be hoping they can right the ship, and so far at least, things are looking up, as the sophomore season looks set to exorcise one of Diablo 4's most tedious grinds.
