Thank god you posted that, hopefully someone will post a video about other great mysteries of the universe, like whether water at its core really is two hydrogen atoms bonded to an oxygen atom.

DeSantis "suspended" (fired) another elected prosecutor. This time in Orlando. Florida's only black female prosecutor, who won her election with 66.6% of the vote.

And he's the challenger to Trump? He's barely getting 5% and his campaign is broke.

I'm absolutely shocked that a person with zero personality and zero policy beyond stop the woke is faceplanting. Shocked.

Running in this cycle was an incredibly stupid move. Not only did he anger the MAGA zombie base, he also proved he's not ready whatsoever for the big stage.

The best news in all this is that it may weaken his public profile enough to punt him out of the Governor's office next election. Our education system depends on it.

Won't the term limit do that regardless?

There's been rumors of changing the state constitution to eliminate term limits.

It's striking how willing some states (US states and other countries) are to modify their so-called foundational documents when they're inconvenient. Contrast that with the constitutional "originalists" who have nothing short of religious reverence for things like the 2nd amendment.

Often they're the same people.

Agreed. Like, we know more and have improved on basically everything today vs. in 1776, yet somehow these guys were geniuses of the likes that have never been seen since, and somehow everything they laid out applies perfectly to a world 250 years in the future that they never could have imagined.

Indictment shows White House lawyers struggling for control as Trump fought to overturn election

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — A few hours after rioters laid siege to the Capitol, overpowering police in a violent attack on the seat of American democracy on Jan. 6, 2021, the White House’s top lawyer, Pat Cipollone, called his boss with an urgent message.

It’s time to end your objections to the 2020 election, Cipollone told Donald Trump, and allow Congress to certify Joe Biden as the next president. Trump refused.

Trump was no longer listening to his White House counsel, the elite team of attorneys who take an oath to serve the office of the president. But by all accounts, he hadn’t been listening to them for some time.

The extraordinary moment — fully detailed for the first time in the latest federal indictment against Trump unsealed last week — vividly illustrates the extent to which the former president's final weeks in office were consumed by a struggle over the law, with two determined groups of attorneys fighting it out as the future of American democracy hung in the balance.

Trump’s attempts to remain in power, according to the indictment and evidence compiled in congressional investigations, were firmly rejected by Cipollone and his top deputy, Pat Philbin. So Trump turned to outside allies including Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro, among other legal advisers, to launch what federal prosecutors have called a “criminal scheme” to fraudulently overturn the election.

Cipollone and Philbin had been heard from before, as both testified to the House Jan. 6 committee under subpoena. But they were unable to disclose to Congress their interactions with Trump, citing the executive privilege that customarily shields their work in the White House.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who brought the indictment against Trump, faced no such barrier. A federal judge ruled the lawyers had to testify about their interactions with Trump in the chaotic weeks before the Jan. 6 insurrection.

As a result, prosecutors were able to obtain extraordinary new details that were used in the indictment of the former president. And Cipollone and Philbin seem likely to become important witnesses in Trump's upcoming trial.

I never really got how he won in the first place, one would think in a state like Florida people would recognize a snake when they see one.

Then again, all these red states don't recognize the second biggest con in American history either.

It's because the democrats doubled down on a losing candidate and ran the corpse of Charlie Crist in a very weak campaign against him. Plus, people thought that DeSantis handled the pandemic exceptionally well, even despite the crazy high amount of infections and relatively high death total. People be stupid I guess.

Isn't DeSantis automatically out next election? I mean he could try to come back after 4 years but isn't there a 2 term limit back to back.

Though knowing that crowd, they might try to change it to a lifetime position before he's out.

What if his wife runs in his place? Iirc George Wallace did that in the 60s when he was term limited.

Again, that's the rumor that has been floating through his justice department. I wouldn't put it past him if he fails as a presidential candidate.

Looks like the judge in Trump's DC case issued a partial protective order: https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/11/polit...ing/index.html

'Whether or not Trump’s public statements are covered by the protective order that’s issued, she said, if they result in the intimidation of a witness or the obstruction of justice, “I will be scrutinizing them very carefully.”'
...
'Chutkan adopted restrictions proposed by prosecutors that would bar Trump from publicly disclosing information from interview transcripts and recordings from the investigation, including from witness interviews with investigators that took place outside of the grand jury.'
...
'“The fact that he is running a political campaign currently has to yield to the administration of justice,” the judge said. “And if that means he can’t say exactly what he wants to say in a political speech, that is just how it’s going to have to be.”'

EDIT: PopeHat talked about this on the Serious Trouble podcast, he thinks these protective orders are possibly unconstitutional and that that might get challenged in this case. Should be interesting to watch.
