Sure, but you're ignoring the 5 seasons he spent in the AHL. In n the last 2 of those 5 seasons, his GAA was 1.79 and 2.19
They didn't pull his name out of a hat.
I think some of you are under the impression that the Flames don' want to promote Wolf. Of course they do. Of course they are as excited about him as we are. But figuring out the plan with the other two, as well as actually seeing Wolf play some NHL games before we hang his jersey in the rafters, takes a little time. Relax, and enjoy the process.

If the Flames plan to play Markstrom the bulk of the games this season, guess they are aiming for a high draft pick.

I’m not ignoring anything. Someone said Wolf needed NHL games before we can determine if he can be our #2. Vladar only had 5. I get what you are saying, but I’m not advocating either way.

And then the next point is that Vladar was 25, and 6'5" - a lot more reason to think he was NHL-ready

Wolf can't hear you through his two time CHL goalies of the year, his 2 time AHL goalie of the year, World junior gold medal and his most valuable player in the AHL awards. Who cares how tall he is, how old he is or when he was drafted at this point? All I’m saying is the has earned his shot and going into next year with 2 goalies will likely limit that significantly for another year.
This is just my opinion and obviously not the majority around here, which is completely fine.

The damage was done the minute he became Oiler property.

Wolf is the same age Hellebuyck was when he played 26 games in the NHL and 30 in the AHL while Hutchinson and Pavelec split the rest of the Jets' games.
When Markstrom was 24, he still played more AHL games than NHL.
Although Andersen was drafted by Anaheim in 2012, he had been drafted as a 20 year-old by Carolina in 2010. When he was Wolf's age, he hadn't been drafted by Anaheim yet and was 24 when he played his first NHL game.
Except for Fleury and Vasilevskiy (who were both highly-ranked first rounders), Wolf is on par or even ahead of the development curve of all the others players listed.
Age when they first played more NHL games than AHL / Age when they played their last AHL game (Not including conditioning stints): - Andrei Vasilevskiy - 21/21
- Connor Hellebuyck - 23/22
- Marc-André Fleury - 18/22
- Ilya Sorokin - 25/25
- Juuse Saros - 22/22
- Jake Oettinger - 21/22
- Jacob Markström - 25/25
- Frederik Andersen - 24/24
- Igor Shesterkin - 24/23
- John Gibson - 21/22
* Age at the start of the NHL season
This will be Wolf's 22 year-old season, and will likely be the first year he plays more NHL games than AHL and the year he plays his final AHL game.

Great post. I did it a slightly different way: Here are the number of NHL regular season games played by time the goalies listed were the age (23) Dustin Wolf will be next summer (2024). I eliminated those drafted more than 15 years ago as developmental patterns between then and now are not really comparable, imo.
- Vasilevskiy -- 90 GP
- Hellebuyck --26 GP
- Ilya Sorokin -- 0 GP
- Juuse Saros -- 48 GP
- Jake Oettinger -- 77 GP
- Frederik Andersen -- 0 GP
- Igor Shesterkin -- 0 GP
- John Gibson -- 66 GP
Average NHL GP: 38.375

Do any of our insiders know if Lindholm + Hanifin for Barkov+ Duclair was discussed as a possible trade earlier in the off season? Obviously before Duclair was traded.

That can only mean one thing. Sidney Crosby to the Flames.

Actually, that's not impossible.
Iggy might be able to convince him.

Something around Owen pickering and Sam poulin perhaps? Two former pens 1sts.
Don't think they'd give up Yager.

That's quanity over quality. Id rather keep Hanifin going into the season and wait for a team with a deeper prospect pool to need a D.

If it's Pittsburgh it's their 1st next year and their best prospect. Especially if the flames have to take money back in the deal.

The rumored Karlsson deal was pickering, 1st and granlund. Assume the same for hanifin.

I've never heard this, but I would say Florida would be crazy to trade Barkov, especially when they wouldn't be saving much cap with Lindholm after this upcoming season. Barkov is elite-Lindholm is not.

With the trade market as it is, I wonder if combining some of the 2024 UFAs in a trade will return more quality instead of quantity. For example,
To Pittsburgh:
Hanifin
Backlund (50% retained)
To Calgary:
Yager
2024 first round pick (lottery protected)
2024 second round pick
Granlund (cap dump)
Traded separately to different teams, I think Backlund could return a 2nd round pick + B prospect and I think Hanifin returns a 1st round pick + 2nd round pick + B prospect. So they could get more quantity (picks/prospects) that way. But together, maybe they could get a higher quality prospect (Yager) in the trade instead.
