God's work I tell you.
A poster asked a question. If Conroy got a 2nd would the trade have been received better? Then he proceeded to say we basically got a 2nd because they had the player ranked higher. We got the 80th overall pick, so to me, it's still a 80th overall pick. If they had Suniev ranked higher, that is great, and hopefully he becomes a star. But if we for example had the 45th overall pick, we likely draft someone that they had ranked in the 1st. Which you would hope has a greater probability of turning into a player. So ya, I don't think the ranking of the player changes the value of the trade. Sorry that upset you.

if they had 45 and 48 for all we know we still have Morin and Suniev.

Are you suggesting that Feaster didn’t acquire the first overall in 2012?!

Remember he was very clear that Wisebrod believed Jankowski was the best player in the draft. The Flames themselves had Galchenyuk ranked #1.

How do you know the Flames didn’t have Morin and Suniev ranked in the top 40, or first round for that matter?

The problem is that posters like Hackey and spurs enjoy focusing on the bad, if everything went good you wouldn't hear a peep from them. I mean I guess if that's what they enjoy have at it. Just weird to me.

I thought he explained it quite concisely. It doesn't matter where the Flames had them ranked. It's still very likely that the Flames missed out on players they had ranked even higher, because they picked at 80 instead of say 45. Besides, even in the unlikely scenario that the Flames didn't miss out on any players on their list, they could've still used their pick to move down, or up because it held more value.

What people are doing is mental gymnastics to try and justify getting less than what they expected. Did anyone have to google Toffoli when we traded for him? how does that compare to Sharangovich? I personally had no idea he scored 24 goals in the NHL.

----

As for the crowed that doesn't like anything negative said about the team, I get it gets exhausting, because those arguments keep running in circles, and we can't do anything about them. I honestly get it, and I try to stay positive myself, but this team sure makes it difficult at times.

However, you most often mock or belittle people that complain because their lives must be so miserable in your eyes, and yet even when they're right, they don't get to tell you "I told you so". You just move on to the next positive spin from the organization, and it would be petty if anyone told you different. Some fans simply deal better with losses, and enjoy wins more when they lower their own expectations. I suggest simply not reacting to discussions that keep going in circles. That's one of those do as I say, not as I do moments.

It's kinda crazy that Galchenyuk is still 3rd in goals and 5th in points from that draft class.

Default Flames trade Toffoli to NJ for RFA rights to Sharangovich and 80th OA

I see it as a positive for the Flames scouting staff. Talent wise the Flames had Galchenyuk pegged.

RE: The Wallstedt/Wolf argument

Most scouts, if given the choice, would pick Wallstedt and Askarov ahead of Wolf. We might not like it, but that's facts. Yes, Wolf has put up much better numbers than the other two in the AHL, but Wall and Askarov played against men before they were even drafted. We might not necessarily agree, but Lanny is right.

Playing against men earlier, and draft hype.

That's it.

Since all went pro, Wolf leads the way easily.

Unfortunately, draft hype & position counts for a lot with pundits, since they want to be proven right on where they had originally ranked them.

Who would get more in a trade right now? I would suggest Wolf would get that nod.

Hey, don't come at me guys- I love Wolfie, just pointing out the facts.

EDIT: I'm highly skeptical that Wolf is worth more in a trade than those other two, though.

For sure. People downplay Wolf in goalie discussions. But it's funny how every trade proposal involving the Flames from OOT fans starts with Wolf.

He's a blue chipper, don't be fooled.

Even Oilers people are frothing at the mouth over this kid, and they love to underrate all Flames talent.

I am sorry, you are right. You would still post and try and put a negative spin on it somehow.

Physical attributes matter as they tell you how protectable a player is
You are ignoring that

Disagree. The other two would yield a bigger return.
