Well if we're including the Cinderella run then 5 rounds in about 35 years. Not really buying the idea that playoff revenue is so critical when they're hardly making any.
2 playoff games of revenue every 7 years.

What Cinderlla run? 04? Flames traded for Kipper mid season. That team was legit as they basically added the best goalie in the league for nothing mid season. That was the teams weakness.
After that trade, they were one of the best teams in the league.

They’ve actually averaged over 2 playoff games of revenue (home games) every year for the last 35 years, not every 7 years.
Close though! Only six off.

That team was the definition of a Cinderella team. No one expected the Flames to make the playoffs that year and really very few thought they would get past the Canucks, no one thought they would get past the Red Wings, and the Sharks were the same thing.
They were a team that had offense being generated by depth players and players having career years. Shean Donovan was the third highest point producer on the roster.
They were a very well coached team that bought into the system and played above any and all expectations they had going into the playoffs.

You asked where the fun is in following a team that isn’t rebuilding. Feel free to ask something else if you’re not getting the answers you want.

They had the best goalie in the league who had a GAA under 2 and the rocket Richard winning winger who was in his prime and the very best player in the league. They had 1 less win in the regular season than the Canucks or Sharks.

Yeah the 04 Flames were good after Kipper...it was just so shocking because the Flames had been bad so long and choking before that when they were good.
They won the division the following season

That may have been the perception in Vancouver, but around these parts, there was not only an expectation of playoffs, but a great deal of optimism that they could do some damage.
I bought season's tickets that year (starting that year), and my rep GUARANTEED that they would make the playoffs. I thought that was optimistic at the time, but by Christmas, I was on board.
Come April, the buzz in the town was palpable. I - and everyone else I knew - went into the Vancouver series expecting to win.

I do feel you have a bit of a revisionist history here. It was like thank God we got in, please just beat the Canucks. Then it was like oh well its detroit at least we beat the Canucks. The. After the start of the Detroit series that was the point where everyone started believing.

Going into the playoffs off all the bottom seeded teams the Flames were voted the team you don't want to play

There wasn't a ton of confidence going into the playoffs becaise of the lack of success and probably lack of knowledge on how good Kipper was, but they were not a 6 seed either. That team was a top team in the league

That matches my recollection.
I remember saying, early in the '03-04 season (and I may have put it in writing on the old Calgary Flames Usenet group), that the Flames' roster looked to be built for the playoffs, and if they got in at all they were likely to go deep. I figured it was about 50/50 whether they would miss the postseason or go on a Cinderella run.

I did hear on the fan that it was a futures based package with Necas as the primary piece.
I can't imagine seeing what we got that a 1st and prospect weren't also on the table

In hindsight they should have taken that deal even if the rest of the offer was lower level picks or prospects. His age would fit right in with some of the young forwards the Flames will be bringing into the organization in the next few years. Would have put them in a lot better position going forward but I get why a GM would be bowled over by the Panthers offer. Huberdeau aside I think Weegar will be a top 4 defender for at least another 4-5 years on a deal that isn't bad and you only have to look at the Oilers to know that finding dependable top 4 defenders isn't easy.
