It's perfect for the Hurricanes as they are getting all of his best years with only a small risk of steep decline in the last few seasons.

The Canes are definitely getting the last laugh after the Canadians gave that offer sheet to Aho

Great contract for the hurricanes. Pretty much only signing him through his prime.

Now in terms of dynamic skill and playdriving ability I'm not sure this is a perfect comparison but over the last 3 seasons:
Lindholm:
DOB: Dec 2nd 1994
Corsi For: 55.3%
xGF: 56.0%
GF: 60.8%
5V5 Goals: 46
5V5 Points: 107
Total Goals: 83
Total Points: 193
Aho:
DOB: July 26 1997
Corsi For: 56.3%
xGF: 56.5%
GF: 56.7%
5v5 Goals: 48
5v5 Points: 102
Total Goals: 97
Total Points: 205
So in terms of on ice results and production you can't get a lot closer of a comparable than these two over the last three seasons. Of course Aho is 2.5 years younger which makes a big difference when signing an 8 year deal.
But I think this signing makes it a lot less likely that Lindholm would want to take anything less than $9.5M.

This makes the Jack Hughes contract look that much better.

Aho carries his line and normally the best player on the team. Lindholm is not. They are not comparable except for Lindholm’s inflated numbers playing with Gaudreau
It would be stupid for someone to sign him to that contract

Instead of front just loading a fair market deal contract, Bergevin should have also upped the average to or over $9 million a season which may have given the Hurricanes pause.

I think he kept it a dollar under the threshold where it would be four 1sts or whatever that compensation is.

A few key factors
- 2.5 year age difference
- 0.98 pts/g vs 0.89 pts/g (this only gets larger if you add the 4th year)
- Sebastian Aho has been the top point producer in Carolina for 6 straight seasons, while Elias Lindholm has never led a team in scoring
- Aho has a much better playoff track record
I just don't see how it's conceivable for Lindholm to ask for a contract that begins with a 9 on an 8 year deal, and I am one of his biggest fans. Aho is clearly the superior player.

I don't disagree.
But if you are Lindholm's agent I guarantee you are using that exact same comparison now when negotiating a deal, the counting stats are close enough that I think if you are Lindholm's agent that's the comparison you use.
It's probably why trading Lindholm is going to be the right move, because this is the type of contract he's going to be asking for. He's going to see anything under $9M as a "discount".

Lindholm can look at similar comp for the first 5 years of the deal, but then the last 3 should be less. Something like:
5 X $9.75 + 3 X 7 = $8.719M
That would be a similar contract.

Contract going until he's 34 for Aho vs 37 for Lindholm is a massive difference.
This is a no-brainer for the Canes and a good deal. Manageable cap hit and he's their top-paid and best player.

I suspect a deal like this is already on the table for Lindholm. It's up to him to make the decision to take it and stay. It's time for Conroy to put on his big boy pants and get some decisions made. This team has for too long given the control over to the players, much to the detriment of the organization. Get some decisions made and focus on moving this team forward.

Aho is clearly better and more of a franchise type forward. Aho is also younger. If anything, this hurts Lindholm's bargaining position. If he's looking for anything above $9 million, based on this comparable he's not worth that.
