You'd think getting one decent lap in early in Q3 even if things aren't perfect would be a priority for him at this point. He has to know his qualifying performance is hurting his chances of keeping the seat.

You must mean Q1? It is actually crazy how close most sessions have been from 2nd-20th this year. But particularly today the track improved by like 2 seconds after the red flag with 3 mins left, so a good banker wouldn't have helped today.
Max had a 1:30.7 before red flag. ALO finished 15th in Q1 with a 129.9

Sorry, yes I did mean Q1, as obviously he didn't make it to Q3.
I really like Perez. But he needs to be getting better results in qualifying if he wants to keep that seat. Maybe today is a one-off where he couldn't have helped it, but it's not like this is the first time he's had a poor qualifying with the fastest car...

Perez failed for 2 reasons. He put himself on the back foot by not having a decent lap, which forced Red Bull to take the obvious tactic of getting out first, which usually works. But the track ramped up so much being first wasn't the strategy to go with. But he wouldn't have been doomed if he had a lap in earlier.
Great seeing McLaren up there. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out today, qualy pace seems to fall apart on several cars when it comes to the race. Can Albon get in the points?
