I don't think we need to worry about Nylander. The Flames don't have the assets to bring him here and I highly doubt he would sign an extension anyways.

Arizona says they want to be good this year, how does adding a top line center for nothing off your roster sound?
Maybe some conditional picks on each side to hedge for risk both ways

With what Tre is asking for, no chance, he's trying to use a get out of jail free card that he doesn't have. Why should the flames help the leafs out of their cap problem, giving them wolf and a 1st in the process. Please tell me Conroy is smarter than that.

If we are moving into a phase of asset management then I don’t see the sense of Nylander for Hanifin. Nylander is a good player and the right wing would be great. It is trading a contract problem for another one. He nearly held out a full season as a RFA. He’s not signing a deal to limit his free agency unless it pays him what he thinks he’s worth or more on the open market. I’m not blaming Nylander. I’d be strong on my demands if I were him too. You aren’t going to get him on any contract that is a bargain. He’s also very likely available next off season anyways.

You foresee more deficit spending?
I hope not. I hope Connie sticks to his word and belief that the draft is where you build a team.

Hopefully you are correct. Even if the Flames are forced into it by players not wanting to sign here I hope they get jammed by the older players not wanting to sign longterm and end up replenishing the org with assets born in 2000 or beyond. Set 26/27 as your goal to be competitive again.

I think the smart move is to sit back. Treliving may act like he is holding the cards but reality is he is in a tough spot. Better to wait and see if some of his players walk and deal from there.

Any deal with Toronto, as much as I do not want the Flames to do it, becomes better later in the summer. How long is Samsonov going to wait to sign a contract? There are a lot of variables going on for Toronto. Calgary in an absolute squeeze can be cap compliant with a 12 forward, 7 dman, 2 goalie roster right now. Only one of the two teams is actually under any kind of cap pressure. Toronto needs to move out 2.2 million to be cap compliant and that would be with Murray as their goalie.

Wonder what the foundations for a Bruins deal would look like given they seem to be the team with the most smoke right now.
Lysell, Carlo and some other future?
Imagine the Bs are reluctant to include a 1st as that third piece given they have had so few 1sts and have already traded next years but the only other valuable prospects they have are Poitras who I think is still a longshot to be an NHLer and Lohrei, do like Lohrei though. He'd moved up to 40th in a recent re-draft for 2020 and with two years development under his belt maybe could be worth a very late 1st? Given he is a US NCAA guy could be a tough sign for the flames though. If he's on the table and willing to sign, wonder if Lysell, Carlo and Lohrei would get it done for both sides. Figure if that same deal is on the table with the 2025 1st instead of Lohrei Conroy probably takes it.

Assets? Treliving has backed himself into a corner with the UFA’s he just signed. He’s in no position to be demanding premium assets. Just need to wait him out.

Carlo and Lysell aren't bad gets but now we have all 4 guys in the top 4 as right shots.

Could be off base but think Tanev plays the left fairly well, if so probably him Zadorov and Kylington down that side paired with Andersson, Weegar and Carlo. You're right though that it is a consideration and pushing Zadorov up into the top 4 and paying 4 mil a year for Carlo in your 3rd pairing isn't ideal.
If it's the best deal out there before the season I'd rather he take it though.
Going into the season with Hanifin unsigned is a recipe for disaster. The flames will for sure be 7th-10th spot around the deadline and it will be very difficult for Conroy to be allowed to trade a top pairing dman

I think we have the pieces needed to make a trade work, but they're pieces Conroy shouldn't be moving for a 27 year old winger who is 1 year away from Ufa.

I'd rather trade him as well since he said he won't sign but I also don't want Conroy first major trade to set a standard we took the best of a bunch of terrible offers.
We get into Feaster territory now.
Kind of a tough spot for Conroy he has legit assets to get good value on if you look at it fairly and not as a Flames fan but but we are not getting the offers at the moment.
Doesn't help stupid Erik Karlsson has to ask for a trade clogging the trade market.

Yeah I understand the rationale totally. I'm just afraid as a fan the reality will be us sitting with Hanifin at the deadline getting offered a late 1st and a 2nd or something while sitting in the 9th place spot with Murray Edwards all in on getting those 2/3 home playoffs dates for the cash as he seems to have been in the past, Conroy being told to treat him as a rental and seeing him walk for nothing as an alternative. We'll be told "it would have cost us more in picks to acquire a rental like Hanifin for the stretch drive" as justification. I think the trade gets so much tougher to make once the season starts. Really underlines what a bad state Treliving left the Flames in Conroy being in this position.
