5 million bucks left from the looks of it with Bouchard and McLeod left to sign.

This would be a perfect time for a team with the cap space and picks to offer Bouchard a 6x6 contract.

Brown could be a solid one year signing for the oiler if he bounces back, and I'm assuming he's going to be riding herd with McDavid.

But it feels like wingers not named Draisaitl don't exactly see a McDavid boost because he's a I'll do it myself player.

But the 4 million dollar bonus and if Bouchard gets a 5 million dollar raise and McLeod gets a million dollar raise already eats into the expected cap boost. With the Pissy apocalypse starting to rear its ugly head.

This is the window for this team this year, and they still look awful on the blueline, awful in goal, and slightly better at forward.

And a dumb ass for a coach.

You can only have 7.5% of the cap earmarked for bonus though before the excess becomes cap for that year.

It's one of the drawbacks for the LTIR teams that exceed the cap so all bonuses received that year are calculated for the cap for the following year, but currently the Oilers aren't up against the cap or utilizing LTIR. They will end up a cap team, but they are equally likely to implode and sell everything at the deadline so it's no guarantee that they will exceed the cap by his bonus overage.
You’re right. I was Just assuming they will be right at the cap when done.

I hope he hits his bonuses early and then falls off a cliff the rest of the season.

Damn, I like this signing. Kids got a ton of upside if he stays healthy and if he doesn’t it’s a cheap deal. Solid signing.

Bouchard would be insane to even sign a 2 yr bridge deal for under $5MM. Unless he does a 1 yr $4MM and then cashes in when the cap goes up next year

Sounds like Bouchard will be 1 yr/3.5 mil and McLeod at that 1.5 range

I doubt they just say “well, guess I will just take less because we ran out of money” but we will see. A team could offer Bouchard 4.3 million for a one year deal and give the Oilers a 2nd round pick for him. Likewise they could offer McLeod 2.1 and give up a 3rd.

Ummm....seems like the "performance bonus" part of this is a slam dunk.

LOL

Haha well those bonuses will be counting against next year's cap for sure. What an irrelevantly easy bonus to get, Holland is off his rocker.

Haha 10 games?! That’s ridiculous. Are they going to put him on IR after 9 and hold him out till playoffs?

It seems like a clever way for a team against the cap to sign a player to a $4M contract but have most of the cap count against the cap next year when it rises.

True but they'll use a big chunk of the rise with this deal next year even if Brown isn't on the team. Holland is just kicking the cap problem down the road again and that's why they never have any space. And is Brown even worth close to 4 million? Coming off a major injury to boot.

So, if they trade him at TDL, the cap stays with them? Or it goes to the other team? May be Holland can count on his buddy StevieWhy to bail him out once again?

They've basically already spent the expected cap increase for next year, but I guess this is potentially their final chance to do something before Draisaitl forces a trade next summer and McDavid the year after.

No idea but I would guess the team that fills the bonus requirement will be on the hook for it. And even if not so, no team would trade for Brown if they need to absorb a cap penalty of 3.225 million the following year.

Ken Holland "Today's problem is next year's problem now"

Just a terrible GM.

Saw that nut job Staples say Holland has been unbelievable in Edmonton.

Will be hilarious if he plays 20 games and scores 5 points and will cost 4 million on next seasons cap.

Only reason he signed with Edmonton is because he played With McDavid in the OHL.

I'd give up a 3rd for McLeod with ease, give him more ES ice time he'll get you 30-40 points.

Perfect way for Conroy to show he's no friend of the Oilers
