So penguins, Florida and Buffalo appear pretty set.
Seems like the market is getting alot thinner. Whose looking for D still?
Might be waiting until tdl

Yeah, it seems like the Flames are running out of destinations for Hanifin. If the Flames do end up holding onto Hanifin passed when teams are capped out, I guess Flames’ fans hope Conroy has the courage to follow his convictions if the team is in the mix for the playoffs.

Some years the Stamps and Hitmen make bigger profits than the Flames. Ownership is not making money hand over fist in Calgary.
Are the Flames ownership the best in pro sports? Probably not. But they are far from the worst. And just because they don't go down the road of a rebuild you want doesn't mean they're terrible owners. I guess it's easy to hide behind a keyboard and #### on people you don't know but you don't mock people so there's that.

I'm not going to mock and ridicule other posters on this forum. Murray Edwards is a public figure, a billionaire, and from what I've heard from my colleagues in the industry, an absolute #######. When you operate a hockey team as poorly as he has over the last 20 years, you open yourself up to ridicule.
I'm sorry you disagree on that but I don't think Murray Edwards is going to lose sleep about what I think on the Internet, so I don't understand why you are rushing to defend him.

I'm not defending Murray. I'm saying the ownership group itself are not the worst. I just don't why people who have no idea what is happening behind the scenes (except for gossip they hear) say they're terrible owners.

It's consistently what we hear on this forum from our insiders. If we can have fun with the rumours that they provide (which I enjoy and think are accurate), we can also have fun when they stink on the owners. Who cares if Ashasx thinks that the owners are terrible based on this info. The basis of my original post was that I hope the Flames aren't afraid of retaining salary to activate player value.

I thought the talk was a big reason he wants to leave is to go back to the States.
And him going to TO is likely worse case scenario for us because they have no young pieces that make sense to come back for us so it likely means a terrible Nylander trade and even worse Nylander extension.

I think the team just needs to resolutely stick to the plan that Hanifin will be traded at some point. At the deadline, I think it’s highly likely a contender will be looking for D, and that contender will pay an exhorbitant price for Hanifin. Teams do it all the time.

I don't think the Leafs can afford that can they? I thought they are pretty tight to the cap and with the long term deals already for Tavares, Marner plus needing to then sign Hanifin, Nylander and Matthews not sure they can add Hanifin without a significant salary coming back.

Nuts, I had Dallas and Seattle as possible suitors. Not looking so good now.
Washington and Anaheim could definitely use some help on the back end. Ducks could use Vladar as well.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Maybe they lose money because they're not great at operating the business and the product they sell isn't that good. Their saving grace is theyre in a Canadian market. Build a contender, win a cup or two. Maybe you'll be more profitable. At the end of the day noone operates a sports team to make money. You get paid when you sell the team. And if profit is your priority I'm sure you can invest the 100s of millions much more effectively in other ventures.

In the bright side, if Backs, Hanafin, and co start the season with the Flames, they’re all going to be playing for their next contract. If Conroy holds to his stance, these players will be worth quite a bit at the TDL
