Sign a bunch of face punchers. I'm kind of sick of seeing the Leafs getting punched in the face/cheapshot in the playoffs and the stars just laughing or showing no emotion. And then in the following games the opposition players that took the cheap shots face no retribution. It's all a crapshoot in the end. Sign a bunch of goons...Hope to sneak into the playoffs...Ride a hot goalie as far as you can go. Might as well. Whatever the hell they were doing under Dubas sure wasn't working in the playoffs.

The thing with Reaves is that signing him to any deal, at this point, is probably a mistake.
Signing him to a multi-year deal? Good god. Because of his age, it'll be a 35+ contract, which means it stays on the books even if he retires. And ... why would you give a goon who's going to be 37 in January more than one year?

.... what if it's three years?

It really makes zero sense to give him any more than a one year deal. I don't get it.

If Reaves reaches 1,000 games, that will be pretty impressive for a player of his type. Glad it's not with the Flames though.

The term Shanaplan has been around for nearly a decade and it’s pretty well known that ownership and Shanahan were pulling Dubas’ strings. Prior to Treliving’s hire, in the post season autopsy it seemed decided in the TO media they were going to go hard after someone like Reaves. My hunch is the direction was handed to Treliving to execute.

If you google Shanaplan it’s almost as hilarious as the Edmonton media the articles written.

I thought the cap hit remains only if it’s a multi year deal and there are bonuses in the latter years or it’s a front loaded contracted. Didn’t Crawford sign a 35+ 2 year deal and retire months later? Devils didn’t have the cap hit remain if I recall.

Well we're not really in direct competition with Toronto and I dont think Conroy is that stupid.

I'm sure theres a face puncher in the AHL we can call if it truly becomes necessary.

I dont think its a coincidence that all the face punchers and goons in the NHL are, uh, shall we say, of a 'certain vintage.'
