He should just walk. Brad gave his money to Kampf.

Nylander could probably get 10 as a UFA
Especially with a higher cap

Exactly. So if he's asking for 10.5 that's far from delusional. Seems pretty reasonable.

I think Nylander is pricing himself out of the NHL. He should learn to dribble and hit the NBA.

Leafs could really use Hanifin, brodie and gio love those guys but they are on the downhill. He'd be riellys partner on their top pairing. though maybe it is a non starter if he has the leafs on that 8 team no trade... seems like he doesn't want to play in canada but toronto is closer to home.
A deal around hanifin and nylander feels on trend for how the flames have handled the retool especially if the flames are moving on from backlund and have the cap space to overpay nylander. Wonder if something like Hanifin and Backlund for Nylander and Liljegren could happen. Might take a younger and cheaper forward than Backlund like dube though as leafs will need every penny to re sign mathews.
I know the leafs used to love liljegren and not sure if he is still considered super valuable but seems like he's never really realized that early potential.

He's not that bad, probably not worth the $5 million cap hit though.
His contract is pretty buyout friendly. Buying him out would remove his entire cap hit next season, so they would get $5 million in space to play with. The following season, they would have a $2.5 million hit, but the cap is supposed to go up substantially by then anyway.
I could actually see them buying him out and then re-signing him to a lower cap hit like the Flames did with Stone before.

What's the buyout cutoff date? I thought the players needed to be on waivers on Thursday so they could be bought out on Friday and become a UFA on Saturday.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that there's a good chance that a team (maybe multiple) is willing to just throw $2M-$3M+ to Matthew Phillips for the fun potential that is there.
Wonder if Chicago eyes him up.
Hall - Bedard - Phillips
My oh my

One-way league minimum is the way to go for Phillips especially with so many teams tight against the cap. You don't want to be even $225,000 higher than the other guy your team is considering for a call-up.

If he returns to the Flames, it'll be a small one-way deal ($1Mish), but I could see a team like Chicago or Anaheim with all that cap space be willing to throw a couple mill at Phillips just to buy a potential hidden gem.
