Smith makes 500K a year more than Toffoli.

So not surprising that the Flames got more, Toffoli is a much better player on a cheaper contract.
All of those numbers look essentially equal to me…

Toffoli for Sharangovich + 3rd

All 5 of those guys are born in 91 or 92. And Toffoli was coming off the best season, with Smith a close second (gets some points for winning a cup) and IMO Toffoli got the best return by far.

Just no market for 30+ year old forwards even if they are only making $4M or so.

Most of that is PP points.

5v5:
Smith: TOI-2417, G-29, P-76
Toffoli: TOI-2571, G-40, P-84

Power Play:
Smith: TOI-381, G-13, P-22
Toffoli: TOI-540, G-25, P-51

So it's more that Toffoli was getting PP1 time in Calgary and Montreal, while Smith was getting PP2 time on a better Vegas team. Toffoli is the better player, but "Much" better would probably be a stretch. And players coming off a cup win generally carry some value too.

The market is weak period due to the cap.

Smith’s underlying numbers look weaker than I would have thought.

With the market being what it is, I’d say this is a good trade for Vegas.

Makes me feel a lot better about Conroy's work. My guess is that there aren't many teams willing to take on 30+ year old players, even at about $5 million/year.

Reilly is coming off a great season, where he was a pretty key piece in a SC winning team....and a 3rd?

I guess, Toffoli gets 25% more points and about 40% more goals than Smith on average, but basically the same.

With the cap being as tight as it is right now, teams are just dumping palers. Pretty lousy time to be moving guys.

great deal for Pittsburgh. Smith is still a solid 25 goals, 55 points winger ... getting that for only a 3rd is not bad at all.

How about by TOI rather than buy games played?

Conroy did better on a comparable player. Not bad for a "rookie" GM.

If you pull the data from the last 5 seasons both players have the same exact ppg (.68)

Toffoli has 244 points throughout that span (358 games played) and Smith has 226 points throughout that span (332 games played)

They are very comparable other than the fact that Smith makes more.

Penguins need to offload Granlund's $5 million / year now.

Smith has another year on his current contract though. You can debate whether that makes Smith worth more or not. But if Toffoli had 2 years left on his contract, I doubt he gets traded this year.

It’s almost as if you reduce two players down to three hand selected stats you can say whatever snippy #### you want and feel correct.
