Maybe he should take a step back and wonder why he has been traded/not re-signed so many times in the last 3-4 years. He lacks foot speed, hit a perfect time in Calgary where he took over the shooter spot on the PP from Lindholm (for some stupid reason) and caught a hot streak. At 31 he isn't getting faster and possibly will see himself on the 3rd line in Jersey because of the foot speed.
It will be interesting to see how things work out for him.

Wyshynski is critical of the trade for the Flames, giving them a C minus.

Guess I’m glad we got a big year out of Toffoli. 30 goals, team’s leading scorer, that was fun. Guess I was hoping for more than depth and a middle round pick.
Oh well, Toffoli likely doesn’t repeat that.

At the age 24, both Comeau and Sharangovich had career high 24 goals and 46 pts.

Honestly fine with it. Could have been better, could have been worse.
Bring on draft day.

We got a 1st and 3rd for a 31 year old that asked to be traded.
On a redraft of the 2018 draft class Yegor is 4th in goals and 8th in points.
Can’t believe there isn’t a bit more excitement for a 25 year old player like this.
You are not getting a 1st round pick in this deep draft one day before it goes off for a guy like Toffoli. Montreal does not give you the return they offered for Newhook, he’s 21 and got 14 goals, Montreal probably couldn’t or wouldn’t want to resign Toffoli to an extension.
We got a decent return for a 31 year old rental.

Average over the past 3 seasons prorated to 82 games - 33 goals 32 assists for 65 points
Over the past 4 seasons - 32 goals and 31 assists for 63 points.
Flames traded a guy who makes 4.5 million and can be expected to score around 30 goals and get around 60 points for the package they got. He definitely is not nor has he been for a while a 40-50 point guy.

I agree with respect to Toffoli; maybe I misinterpreted your first post. I'm talking about evaluating players, not this specific trade.

Very true, Jersey is a fast team. Not sure where he fits in especially with them adding Timo Mier

I think we need to take a long hard look at the legacy of how Treliving treated the players.
The stink around that guy grows more and more pungent as the days go by.

I think the negativity from Tofoli and Backlund are probably one and the same. Tofoli flat out validated it. At seasons end, him and Backlund were two who didn’t #### all over the team. Rumour is Backs had issues, but he was clearly priority 1 was to win with the Flames.
Subsequent to that, the Flames have prioritized trying to sign one of the players , Lindholm, who was super negative. Now IMO the Flames have done the right thing, this is about hockey and on ice, but I can see how could have soured both. They expected the “I want to be here” to override where they should have been in the pecking order based on importance to results.

Toffoli had those kind of numbers at that age.

So Sharangovich is upgraded to a 1st now?
Cool sometimes needs to tell him to ask for more in arbitration

Aiden Fink, Calgary kid. Probably the best player in the AJHL. Should be available around pick 80:

But looking at those stats and you can see that Yegor is also more than you're giving him credit for.
Last three seasons:
5v5
Toffoli: GP-208, G-40 , P-84, TOI-2571
Sharangovich: GP-205, G-35, P-76, TOI-2633
Power Play
Toffoli: GP-208, G - 25, P-51, TOI-501
Sharangovich: GP-205, G-4, P- 6, TOI-152
So pretty much all the difference in their production is PP. So then the question that I ask is Toffoli a much better PP player, or did he just get more opportunity.

Ok
Sharangovich had a Mangi like breakout couple months. He was nothing like that before and after. Let’s see if he can do it again
Obviously Conroy is believing in reclamation project. It works sometimes

He knew he was Treleaving all year so he might as well leave those UFA decisions to the next GM than bother starting any discussions.

As it stands the Flames have to emulate some of that to make use of that release. I really hope Lindholm can be cashed in high though. I think getting around the 12th overall is fair value for him but we'll see.

Hubey can disey doodle, twist and turn then before the other knows it he passes it to Sharangovich and bam, in the net. It's almost like Gaudreau used to do and Monahan scoring those in the slot goals.

Comparing Treliving and Conroy first move.
Treliving a 3rd for Bollig.
Conroy Toffoli for a 3rd that Treliving traded away and Sharangovich.
Probably why the prospect pool and picks are bare at the moment. Traded away way too many picks with complete disregard.
