But they are giving up on a few depth-ish players that played well against Edmonton.

just an okay return IMO. Could become a good one if Kupari ever made the next step ... you never know, others like Joel Eriksson Ek also took a while to pop. But it's a big if with Kupari.

Vilardi is a decent piece, but the deal does feel a bit like treading water.

This is where I’m at too.

I guess we’ll wait and see what the entire deal look like but to me:

- Iafallo is a 30 year old middle of the rotation player. Not sure I see the value here for the Jets.

- Kupari is an okay piece, but nothing special. Best case would be he settles in as a third line center.

- If everything goes right Vilardi is a nice piece, but he has battled injuries his junior and professional career. Looked like he put it all together last season, but I’d be wary of a guy coming off a season with a 19% shooting percentage.

I would be pretty bummed if the Flames did something like this for Lindholm.

I thought Iaffalo was younger.

Its a good package if Winnipeg is retooling and hanging onto Hellebuyck. Those guys can help you now.

If WPG is rebuilding then it's more of a lateral move that doesn't make a ton of sense.

Now the Flames should have the market cornered for centers.

Not sure there's any one better than Lindy and Backlund available out there

To me this trade just shows why selling a player to a contender and asking for roster players can be foolish.

You tend to end up in a quantity for quality trade because they aren't going to trade you impact roster players.

Going with a bit of a hybrid strategy is even better where maybe you get one roster player and some picks/prospects to top up. Not a package of only roster players.

In 2 or max 3 years, both teams are going to be unhappy with this trade.

Make the number right and they can gift him to Montreal in 5 years.

You aren't going to get much for PLD. This return seems like it may have been the best offer available. He's a player who takes shifts off often, and has requested to be moved twice in the only 2 teams he's been on. Plenty of big dudes who never put it together.

So who needs a C right now?

Colombus is one for sure but I don't think Lindholm or Backlund want to sign there.

Carolina? Lindholm would be a fit. They just signed Staal to be their #3C and Aho is their #1. Kotkaniemi isn't a 4C but not really a 2C yet but he's young. So he would be coming back I assume in any deal.

Boston - no cap space to sign Lindholm.

Who else is there?

That's why he is getting somewhere near 9x8

Pittsburgh I think would be a great fit. They are trying one more time with the their core but need more. Could take back Granlund as a cap dump and get 2 first round picks from them so would think.

Also, Dubas has never been shy about trading first round picks and would like to make a splash with Pittsburgh early.
