If the return is bad, don't rush. We still have 1 year to trade them. Just get some draft picks 2024 & 2025. Have a long term plan and vision.

I think most teams who were willing to trade their pick this year already did so. There are a few who got an extra pick that might move a later one for right now help. But the market on established players is pretty tough right now without a lot of cap space in the league. We're seeing guys given away with teams paying most of the salary to do it. Even a guy like Durzi who is a NHL level defenseman fetched a 2nd in next year's draft. So seems to indicate a ver weak trade market if you can't match the money.

The Flames losing their pending UFAs is an inevitability.

How many have they successfully re-signed in the past ten years relative to the ones that have walked?

Zadorov is the exception, not the rule.

Players want to play elsewhere. Plan for it.

They all have to play for their next big pay day! Not the end of the world if they unload at the deadline! On the mean time if there is success they have plenty of time to negotiate contracts! Not ideal but not the end of the world!

The Avs just got a #2/3 C for free because the Preds wanted to clear $4 mil. Cap is king. If you’re looking for a straight player for picks deal, you’re going to have a real tough time getting full value.

Backlund, Giordano, and Brodie all come to mind. How many have they lost, that they actually wanted to retain?
Kept Glencross and Bourque.

Flames received a substantial trade offer last evening for Elias, Eastern Conference Team. Flames are going to hold out in hopes they can drive up the price slightly. The deadline is quickly approaching for Elias to sign an extension.

The package was "not distant futures" and a pick 1st round pick.

He's gambling right now.

Conroy has a handful GMs awaiting his phone call on Elias.

Hatti B's this afternoon... No more Jack.

If you're a small market team like the Flames you trade them either way. You can't afford to abandon good asset management on a hope and a prayer that you'll be able to make noise in the playoffs.

Doing it the old fashioned way (buying when in a playoff spot) hasn't worked for a long time. It's amazing to me there are still GMs employed who repeatedly do things that provably don't work towards long term success.

Treliving was one of the worst in this regard. I hope Conroy isn't just a stooge who will rinse and repeat broken management techniques.

Seems like a good start if true. Not distant futures can mean b prospects though.
