I hope he resigns but I expect to hear that he has informed the team he will not be resigning. To many unknowns with all the players leaving.

It's not the end of the world if we do re-sign Lindholm. I want players that want to play here. I just don't want to begin the season with him AND Backlund here. Need to move one with one or both.
It would be hard to replace Lindholm in the UFA market if he were to leave. I would rather he get traded, but there is a huge benefit in retaining him too.

No, I think people are overvaluing this draft. It goes hand-in-hand with every draft and perceptions at this time of year. Yes, it is a good one with a excellent group of forwards available in the top 20 picks. After that it becomes the usual crapshoot. There is no guarantee that anyone selected in the top 20 is a sure thing.
The problem with ANY draft is you are rolling the dice and hoping you pick the right player. As has been shown in draft after draft, there are more misses than there are hits. You are picking players based on their play against kids and then hoping they can continue to do the same as men. The problem is there is so much growth and maturity that takes place after these kids are selected that things change quickly. And the problem isn't that we're picking players, it is the development time required after they are picked. Taking any player usually means a five-year development cycle until they start to turn into the player you want them to be, and some of those players even longer. This is also predicated on them developing as expected. There is risk involved and there is player development involved.
If the Flames are going to dump all their players for picks then they are going scorched earth and should be doing it with every player and contract they have. It needs to be a garage sale and everything must go. Start over and start fresh with a new crop of players you hope will become the core. Draft them in a three-year window and focus on those drafts going forward. That then becomes your window. So if 2023 is the draft year, then the competition window is set to open in 2028-29 when you hope to have enough quality players to be competitive. If you're going to go that way, commit to it and commit to it hard. The Flames just don't seem like a team that will invest fully in that strategy.

I expect a mix of draft picks and established young'ish players coming back, with a possible cap-dump player coming in the mix. I don't think the Flames go scorched earth given their past reluctance to rebuild and the fact that there are too many long contract, what should be high-performing players still on the roster. I expect a retool with an eye towards still trying to compete.

Nailed it.
At the same time, and for the reasons you stated here, I think it’s harder to pry away highly valued prospects from other teams than draft picks. We can probably get a Filip Zadina from Detroit but I don’t think he has professed the way they would have hoped. Is LA willing to part with Turcotte? I would be a bit surprised Byfield’s a prospect they would part with. I’m sure there is a long list but if a 10-20 year old is kicking the door down on an ELC, hard to justify moving that player for what the Flames have to offer. I think most teams would loathe scenario. Maybe Hanifin gets you am A prospect because he’s 26.
I would be all for it though, Nieuwendyk-Iginla 2, bring it on.

During the entirety of my adulthood, we haven’t had a centre at Lindholms level. The fact that anyone would be disappointed in keeping this particular player is nuts to me.

Whatever Conroy does it's a pretty good indication what direction they are heading. Re-sign him and it's a retool around the new core and they'll probably try to make hockey trades for guys like Hanifin & Toffoli. If it's a trade it's pretty much scorched earth.

If it weren't for Kadri's contract, I'd be all for re-signing Lindholm. Having big money locked up in both guys, who are (or will be) on the wrong side of 30 is my issue

To be fair lafreniere has 3 mediocre to disappointing nhl seasons under his belt. Wright hasn’t even played his rookie season yet

I think Wright would outproduce Lafreniere when he reaches the same amount of GP in the NHL. Of course, he hasn't even cracked the NHL roster yet but at the same time Lafreneiere as a 1st OA pick has been underwhelming to say the least.

10AM sounds like announcement meaning a signing? Or am I reading to far into this?

That’s it’s own problem. You don’t ditch a top line centre because the last guy ####ed up huge.

I think that just means Sec was going to have a "fun" night in Nashville and didn't envision waking up any earlier
At least that's what I hope!

It's funny how Gaudreau and Tkachuk wanted out before they even had to play with those two, amazing the type of impact Huberdeau and Kadri have had.
People jumping to conclusions that they are the issues with the room and organization are ignoring that the exodus started before they even got here.

Sometimes I feel like the increased understanding of salaries and cap management has completely ruined the experience of being a hockey fan, and seeing someone not want a prime-aged top line centre because they are concerned about cap management specifically related to a lesser player is absolutely one of those times.

Based on his past statements, I'm assuming it's an announcement that he is available for trade and Conroy is seeking dance partners.
