Honestly Anaheim scares me. With Fantilli they’ll have some really nice and really young pieces.
They’ll need to shore up their defense still but I think they’ll be competitive again sooner rather than later.
I don’t see a path for the Flames to win this division that doesn’t involve a rebuild at this point. I’m on board for it.

If we’re going rebuild we should trade Lindholm, Backlund, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov and Toffoli only in division. Make the Pacific around Edmonton stronger.

I said that at the deadline lol
Send these players to contenders so the Oilers get screwed but I think the Oilers screw themselves anyways.
Team powerplay isn't going to win anything.

Original thinking like this plus the 50% retention on 3 of the contracts we trade would add the right amount of spice to the reshaping of the roster

How so? Their two best players are already in their mid-thirties.

Kopitar and Doughty are still the obvious keys to LA's success because they continue to be amazing players.

They also have Byfield and Clarke who have yet to even begin to establish themselves. I think those two will be pretty significant NHL players.

Maybe. At this point there is still a lot if hope, and nothing is guaranteed.

Byfield has played 99 games and has 8 goals and 33 points. He hasn't looked great at the NHL level. If he doesn't have a good year in 23-24 he's heading into bust territory.

People were saying Eichel hasn't won anything, he might never recover from his neck, last year didn't help Vegas make playoffs and Lindholm is better etc etc. Low and behold, Eichel was a difference maker once he settled in. I think PLD is on the cusp of popping. I may be the minority but I wished we took a swing.

If they make this move without giving up Byfield or Clarke and not giving in to the $9M cap hit I think this will work out well for LA

If I remember correctly, the Flames did take a swing, but Dubois was pretty determined about landing in Winnipeg where his father was coaching. I recall that it was widely known he would not sign an extension with any other team but the Jets when he was moved.

I wonder if the Kings get Dubois, then trade for Hanifin using Byfield +

Don't know about bust but he definitely hasn't looked anything special so far, at least when I've seen him. Big body but I'm not sure what he supposedly does well that made him a high pick.

Question; seeing as these names get thrown around, how would you (not you specifically) rank Lafrennere (sp), Kakko, Byfield?
Is there one that seems to be ready to hit their potential? Is there one you think the Flames should target?

I’d take Byfield>Kakko>>>>>Lafriniere. I don’t think Laf is worth much of anything.

I would put Kakko first, he seems closest to be able to breakout. But this is based on very limited viewing of Bylfield.
