Yeah, paying $250K to sit on the ocean floor and slowly suffocate isn't a great way to go, so I can appreciate that... but I still laughed pretty hard at the twitter video with the video game controller.

Dont forget the intricate plumbing from RV World...

The only thing missing was a hanger in the corner with some rolls of duct tape.

Seriously, there's no amount of money they could pay me to get me on a deep sea vessel maneuvered by a ####ing gaming controller. What an insane premise

If I'm not mistaken, this is the company James Cameron is involved with and he used the subs about 40 times to visit the titanic.

He's no idiot.

Makes you wonder why the billionaire on the homemade sub didn't splurge for Triton. cheap bastard.

And getting into it just to see the Titanic on a TV screen.

I don’t get it at all. All that money and risk not for a view fee no others could have (they can, for free), but just to be able to say you were there (even though there’s no definitive way for you to prove you were actually there and not just staring at a video in a submarine sitting 30 feet below the surface).

It’s mind blowing. If I’m going to space I want a window seat.

Those Tritons are cool. Had no idea there was one rated for 36,000 feet

https://tritonsubs.com/subs/t36000-2/

Although this owner seems equally as crazy watching the video on the 36000...

It doesn't seem particularly big, but there is an actual porthole to look through at one of the ends.

Okay...keep in mind that I am not a 'video gamer' and I dont know what console that controller comes from...and correct me if I'm wrong but...

Was that controller wireless?

Do you trust these clowns to have put extra batteries on this Sub?

What happens if theres a problem with the connection?

This whole half-assed thing seems like something they'd get Clarkson and the Boys to slap together on old Top Gear as a joke.

I'm inclined to agree with another poster, this is rapidly going from 'seafaring tragedy' to 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes.'

I am getting the impression that I could have spotted the problems with this home-made half-assed POS submarine well before I decided to take it to the bottom of the ocean and made a more intelligent decision.

Don't worry, if the controller stops working you just get everyone to lean to one side and that'll get rid of the scrap metal they use for ballast:

Quote:
“Some of the ballast is abandoned construction pipes that are sitting on shelves on the side of the thing, and the way you detach the ballast is you get everybody on board to lean into one side of the sub and they roll off.”

Come on, it has a USB Nano-Receiver. That sounds sciency.

It also has dual vibration motors, so when things go wrong, you can be more immersed in the experience.

And some of the plumbing comes from 'Camper World.'

Now...I'm no fancy 'Big City Marine Engineer' or nuthin' but I'd wager that for the most part something that most Campers dont have to concern themselves with is unfathomably crushing water pressure.

Conspiracy Theory: Its a Hoax. This Sub is docked at some water-side Pub somewhere and all these billionaires are having a pint and a laugh at the Global media outpour over this.

Because you'd have to be out your goddamn mind to try and go down to the Titanic in this POS.

It says its still compatible with Windows 98 (and XP!). Which, if it were the operating system on this Sub at the moment...would not surprise me in the least at this point.

How much do you want to bet that this is listed as one of the 'redundant safety measures.'

Better story than 800 immigrants dying on a ship in the med? After being denied to make landfall?

After watching the latest presser from the USCG, they're really hold back a lot of info to the point where it sounds like they still haven't sent everything they need out to the site for S&R. And they even admitted they don't have any deep sea equipment to even mount a rescue if they could. And by the time they've done any outreach to procure any possible private equipment, it'll be too late.

In fact, it already is IMO.

That is if it isn't a hoax.
