I saw the new Transformers movie and thought it was just ok. I grew up with Beast Wars so I was really excited about this one, but they don't really give the maximals much to do. I think Rhinox and Cheetor have one line between them. If I were to rank the Transformers films I'd put this 5th spot just ahead of the two Whalberg movies. The end stinger is really cool tho and sets up
With all the live action superhero multiverse movies we've got in the past few years, this is definitely the best. Above Spiderman No Way Home and Dr. Strange 2 for me.
but what about spiderverse?

I thought The Flash was OK but nothing great. Typical superhero movie. The first hour is great and then it starts to drag on and the last half hour your just checking your watch waiting for it to finish. Ezra Miller makes the movie. There's also no real villain. Overall I'd say it's a 7/10.
The Flash was very bad. One of the ugliest movies I've ever seen. The cameos were gratuitous and actually kind of offensive. Ezra was just unfathomably annoying and Keaton was clearly just collecting a paycheque. It'll age worse than any of these DC movies.

I enjoy The Escapist reviews and typically have similar tastes. They went all out on this one for The Flash.
They're absolutely right. I've gone over this a million times, but there were so many issues in the making of this film that I expect it to be a hot mess. If its not? Great. But I'm not seeing it in theaters.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I'm shocked by the early box office returns for The Flash and the audience reaction. I know I'm super biased but alot of critics that have a good pulse on comic book movies gave it a very favorable review (Stuckmann, Jeremy John's Sean Chandler, Grace Randolph, ect). I know the CGI is cheeks but the rest of the movie is great. I wonder if this is just a case of the DC brand being toxic right now.

Most of the folks I know who would go and see this don't trust DC anymore and don't like Ezra Miller/his antics, so don't want to support him in a movie.
Personally, it's on my list to see, but that's about 3 weeks out from now (I see a movie a week, if there's stuff in theatres I want to see)

Ezra Miller is a lunatic and I cannot remember another film that has had this many production problems since Justice League. Its almost a running gag with DC by now.

I thought the Flash was good. It's the best "Story" DC has put out in quite some time. The script seemed pretty tight and the pacing was good.
I thought Ezra Miller was downright annoying in his Justice League portrayal of the Flash, but I found this to be a much better characterization of Barry Allen/The Flash.
There will be a lot of talk about the CGI, for the action scenes it was fine and pretty standard for what's out there these days. The CGI'ing of people was awful, like downright terrible. The only silver lining was that there was so much of it that it felt less jarring than Rogue One where it just shows up out of nowhere.
The CGI cameos were completely unnecessary and because the CGI was so bad, they didn't land like you'd want them to. They looked like Video Game cut scenes from the 90s
For me I thought it was good and worth seeing. It's the best story that they've put out and hit on some notes that the DCEU hasn't hit on at all up to this point.
If you can't separate the character from the actor, then I guess that'll affect your opinion of it. Which is fair.
I liked The Flash. I went in for the cameos and to see Keaton as Batman again (which actually exceeded my expectations as well).. but I was pleasantly surprised by the weight of the actual story.
The CGI at times was god awful. Part of me wondered if they just pulled funding knowing this movie didn't have a future with the changing of the guard so they just wanted to push it out the door.
It was rushed for sure at parts but if you were following along with the DCU already you didn't need them to rehash every little detail.
Overall it was enjoyable, I'd say a 7/10 is fair. There's one part in particular that makes it a 10/10 though and I never ever expected.
With all that done and Keaton getting a swan song as The Batman, I'm happy to move on to the next chapter in DC comics movies an--- oh wait we've got another Aquaman movie first.. ok hold on.. let's get through this as well..

Which part was 10/10 for you? Don't have to spoiler, just hint at it and I'll probably get it. Genuinely curious.

I will spoiler it for spoiler reasons but:
Spoiler!
When Clooney showed up at the end. I never in a 100 years expected him to be in this movie, or to accept to be in the movie, and this was even filmed AFTER all of the Ezra Miller controversy as a favour to Gunn and a nod to his time as Batman, which he has often joked was the worst of all the movies.
The fact that he showed up for such a small part as well is great. This was apparently filmed 6 months ago when Gunn and Co. took over and replaced a major Cavil cameo after he was told he wasn't coming back.
I know it's a small part and a small nod but it really made me laugh and I really appreciated it.
Also it sounds like according to the director Cage actually was in the film, I thought that part was just 100% CGI?

I enjoyed the flash. Probably the best of the DCEU movies. I went in expecting a terrible disaster though so that always helps.
Spoiler!
I thought they could have leaned into the time travel stuff more. Like Old Barry Allen should have been interfering more in the events of the timelines to make sure it got to the point they got to at the end. He could have assisted in New Barry getting his powers or in old Barry getting the powers back. Just showing up as essentially a ghost keeping the timeline on the rails.
I also think they should have had the main Barry be the one to kill his mother. Essentially when he goes back to fix things he follows back to the house sees no one go in, sees his dad coming home realizes that the whole time travel loop is self causal and has to kill his own Mother.
I’m not sure about reverse causality time travel. I think the basis would have to be that the universe is self correcting to avoid paradoxes but I always prefer a why to why a universe is the way it is. (Like the Star Trek mirror verse was Kirk convincing Evil Spock that peace could work causing disruptions by the time DS9 goes to the mirror verse). The subtle causality in things makes it more satisfying. So thinks like moving the soup can to the top shelf makes his dad free is great but that turning Affleck into Cloony is kinda arbitrary and less satisfying.
But despite all that I like time travel movies and complaining about how time travel works in time travel movies is part of the enjoyment of time travel movies. So I like the idea of reverse causality but not the application.
31 years ago today one of my all time favorite superhero movies released...... Batman Returns. While the film wasn't the mega hit the original was, IMO it's the better film. While nothing like the comics, it's this wonderful gothic fairy tale set at Christmas time.
I'm curious which film do you think is better, Batman 89 or Returns?

Both great for their own reasons. Returns probably better strikes at the emotional themes, but the original just had so many iconic scenes and music. Tough to beat.
Just saw the new Spiderman with the kid on the weekend. We both thought it was great, a bit on the long side but wasn't an issue.
I want to see the new GoTG but he says it'll be on Disney+ really soon so just wait. He's not wrong, I can't help but think that hurts some box office numbers these days. Knowing it'll be on a streaming platform in a matter of weeks.

Interesting yeah I was literally just about to go see GOTG today. This made me think about waiting.
But I do want to see it in theatres so I’ll probably still go.
